Dell Latitude D620: Thermal pad replacement alternatives

Hi. I've read the post "Dell Latitude D620 Teardown" and my question is: if the chipset's blue thermal pad is missing, can I replace it with a piece of copper and putting the thin layer of Artic Silver 5 between the copper and the chip and between the copper and the heatsink?

The question is due to I can't get that kind of thermal pad in my country, only can get very thin thermal pad and it seems of a different material. Or what other alternatives can I develop?

Dell Latitude D620: Laptop will not start, no fan noise or hard drive noise

One day I was working on my latitude D620 and all of a sudden it just shut off. I tried restarting it, but when turning it on I only got the power icon light to turn on for about 3 second and then the light went away. Also when I try to turn it on I do not get a fan sound or a hard drive sound. It seems to me that there is no power going to the drive or fan. I have played with the memory modules but still not luck. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Dell Latitude D620: Why does my son's D620 display flicker?

Some days ago my son's DELL Latitude D620 suddenly started flickering steadily during normal work.

This occurs already during POST, combined with red lines evenly arranged vertically all over the screen, appr. every 1cm.

Beside this, the device seems to start up normally in the Background, but the flickering doesn't stop.

I've also tried loading BIOS Defaults, without any change.

Anyone an idea?

Dell Latitude D620: Screen distorted and very fuzzy

Hello,

I just hit the jackpot at the Salvation Army and got an iBook, 2 dell latitudes and a hp pavilion. One of the dell latitudes work, but the screen is very fuzzy and distorted. This is probably a cold solder joint under the gpu or chipset, but other than that it works just fine. Is the gpu removable, or is it soldered on? Also, how would I fix it at home?

Dell Latitude D620: When Power Supply is Plugged into The Computer It Shuts Off...Why?

I have a Dell Latitude D620. I did a system restore on it going back to a previous date in the computer. It went through the restore and rebooted itself. It then said system restore not complete, please try again. Redid the system restore a second time. It completed the restore and booted down and will not reboot. Now when you plug the adapter into the computer, the green light on the adapter goes off. If you unplug it from the computer and leave it plugged into the wall the adapter green light comes on but then when you attach it back to the computer it goes out again. I cannot start the computer without the adapter as the battery is dead. I have researched possible problems but cannot find anything. Anyone might know what the problem would be? When you have a moment and thank you for your time!

Dell Latitude D620: Cmos chip location on board

OK i have a d620 that I replaced the motherboard on. I bought it from a website and i have a bios password that will not let me set the date and time or change my boot order since it is locked by the password, I contacted the company and they sent me a new board that worked 3 times before it stopped working and will not post.
