Dell Inspiron 530: Is there any possible upgrades for this computer?

Ok I'm looking to see if there is any possible upgrades I can do to this computer and if so how far?

I'd love to push this computer so I can safely reinstall windows7 and use it for gaming and use bluetooth controller/keyboard on it. So the planned upgrades I'd love to do is the CPU and HDD. I think it's default ram config(which looks like 4gb) is going to be the max I can do unless something else allows it to support more. Especially since I can't afford to do much more in this case. So it's either this or an HP laptop which I doubt I can upgrade to a substantial point versus this. So that one may just end up as a old PC game laptop that's constant connected. So this one if possible will go to SSD and later dual drive it(maybe use what's already in there until I can afford something else?)

Thanks in advance for any help

Dell Inspiron 530: cant enter the boot menu but can go windows normally (go online etc)

hi there, so im updating an old dinosaur of a pc, and i will be installing linux on it as it currently runs on windows vista (i will be installing linux on an ssd and having that boot as the primary and will probably just let vista lie dormant on the hard drive) i have installed an intel dual core e8400 up from a dual core e2160 so in other words it now has the second best processor it could ever have, it can also have up to 8 gigs of ram (4 slots) and im about halfway there, just need to order 4 more parts to finish everything, 2 of those being the final 2 sticks of ram, so to do those things i also had to upgrade the bios from 1.0.0.0 to 1.0.18 or whatever the numbers are, but thats roughly it.

the problem now is: i cannot get into the boot menu, when i try, it just cuts the signal with the monitor (my tv) but yet the computer stays on, if however i allow the computer to boot normally, it will do so and i can go on the internet with it or whatever….but this boot issue absolutely needs to be sorted otherwise i will not be able to select it to boot from the ssd that i will be getting.

i discovered this when i was trying to make it boot from my hirens boot cd (which i used before on it to bypass a forgotten password) in order to clean up any residual viruses/malware it may or may not have so as i can keep the machine preserved whilst waiting for the parts.

any help with this and/or a solution would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Dell Inspiron 530: will this ssd be suitable for these 2 machines? and what sata cable?

hi there, so as ive posted before I am upgrading a dell inspiron 530 and I will be putting an ssd into it so I can boot it from Linux as theres no way im paying 80 quid on a piece of new windows software that’s potentially worth more than the machine its on also ive had bad experiences with windows 10 anyway, so what I need to know is, will this ssd be compatible with a dell inspiron 530? : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-SA400S...

(I cant link to that for whatever reason so please copy and paste)

I see that there are apparent differences between sata 1, 2 and 3? and that my pc may not be compatible with sata 3 because of its age? if that is the case could any of you link me to another more suitable ssd on amazon instead? it has to be amazon as I have £9 gift card credit on it which I would like to use up, could you also direct me towards the correct sata cable to use with the dell too? I am looking for the best possible ssd and cable I can install on that machine but still somewhat cheap and it seems that kingstons are the most reliable as far as I can tell?

as mentioned in the description, I also plan to install an ssd on my hp pavilion g6 2365 ea laptop and rip out the hard drive as a final solution IF nothing else works (the problems im having with it at the moment have also been mentioned on this forum) so would the above mentioned ssd work with that laptop or is it not sata 3 compatible either?

answers greatly appreciated

thank you
