Dell Inspiron 1501: My computer has been really slow for about three months?

I have had my Dell Inspiron 1501 for about three years and has been really slow here lately, I have had it fixed a couple of times. Yet, it is still being very slow. Also when I start my computer it tells me that it can not read my battery, and to press any key. Another thing it is having a hard time charging as well. Is there something that they have messed up on it or is it something I have done.?

Dell Inspiron 1501: Troubleshoot Booting Problem, turns on, fans whiz for a moment

I need help troubleshooting the problem with my laptop. If I have the computer connected to the power and the battery is in its place, then the battery charging LED light turns on. If I press the power button, the fan whizzes, and the hard drive may make boot noises, but immediately after the everything goes silent. The power LED light remains on, but the screen does not display anything, not even the back-light in the screen. It will stay that way until I press the power button to turn it off.

Online, I was able to find some potential fixes, but none of them solved my problem.

Remove the battery, unplug from power source, press power button for 60 seconds, plug into power source, and turn on laptop.

Take out the DIMMs and put them back in.

How can I isolate the problem component? How can I diagnose the issue?

I am not afraid to open the computer, but I do not know where to go from here. Thanks for the help.
