Dell Inspiron 11-3147: Keyboard replacement possible? Dell Inspiron 3147

Inspiron 11-3147 2-in-1

Can the keyboard be replaced on the palmrest and keyboard assembly unit of this specific model? It is a laptop/tablet with touch screen. The display can bend 180 degrees to fold back against the base for tablet mode.

The Dell support website for the laptop lists a part for just the keyboard, but the Dell Owner's manual does not detail the removal of the keyboard. I have a a replacement keyboard to install, but I hesitate to remove the keyboard from the "palmrest and keyboard assembly" unit if the manual does not list this procedure.

The palmrest and keyboard assembly is a separate unit from the just the keyboard in the Dell parts listing. Both parts are available on eBay. The palmrest and keyboard assembly sometimes is sold with keyboard and touchpad, sometimes just the "frame" and touchpad without keyboard. Rarely just the frame itself - sans keyboard and touchpad.

Working on this 2-in-1 laptop/tablet is a new experience for me. The guts of the computer - battery, drive, mainboard, speakers, etc., reside on the topside/keyboard side of the computer. That unit is named palmrest and keyboard assembly. The bottom of the computer is simply a shell, with no parts attached to the bottom side.

Previously, I have torn this computer down and successfully replaced the Power Port Adapter. So I don't hesitate in the tear-down, only in knowing for sure if the keyboard specifically can be replaced.

Dell part listing

7W4K6 - ASSEMBLY, PALMREST, SILVER, 80, 3147

F4R5H - KEYBOARD, 80, UNITED STATES, ENGLAND/ENGLISH, T14S1

Inspiron 11-3147 2-in-1

Computer Model: Inspiron 11–3147

Regulatory Model: P20T

Service Tag: C267712

Manual lists procedure for removing

palmrest and keyboard assembly, but not for removing the keyboard from the assembly.

Dell Inspiron 11-3147: Glass broken, how to find new glass and replace?

Hey guys, I have an inspiron with damaged glass, making the touchscreen unusable. I'd like to get it back to working order, but i can't seem to find the glass. There are many cracks across the screen and the top right corner is missing a few pieces. Is it worth it to search for glass or should I look for entire top half replacements instead? If I can find glass, what's the best method to try and remove the many pieces?

Dell Inspiron 11-3147: Three beeps upon startup

Does not boot and instead get three beeps. Given three different possible solutions: Chipset Error (North and South bridge error)

Time-Of-Day Clock test failure

Gate A20 failure

Super I/O chip failure

Keyboard controller failure

How would I go about testing which one of those would be causing the issue? The website says to run Dell's diagnostics tool but it won't even boot up far enough for me to access that.

Dell Inspiron 11-3147: Time Resets When I Restart

Every time I restart my laptop the time is wrong. I reset the time, but the next time I turn off the laptop the time is lost again.

Sometimes if I do not change the time on the laptop right when I start it the time will fix itself after a little while.

Dell Inspiron 11-3147: Do you think I can safely try to install 8GB of RAM into this laptop?

Hello everyone, I have read somewhere that Dell purposefully reprogrammed their BIOS so that they could set limits on any upgrades their customers could install. I won't be buying Dell or any other manufacturer that limits my ability to upgrade.

Anyway, on the official Dell website they say my laptop only supports 4GB max. But on a different website it says that my processor supports an 8GB max. Then on another website a user posted that they were able to install an 8GB upgrade.

So what do you thing? Should I just buy the RAM and try to install it? Or will I destroy my hardware poking around in there?

Dell Inspiron 11-3147: Hinge problem: Why does the hinge get stuck

My Dell Inspiron 11-3147 fell on the floor and as a result of the drop, and one of the hinges will not rotalte fully any longer. I cannot close the laptop, neit Iher can I fold it like a tablet. That hinge will only rotate a little in both directions, then it gets stuck. I tried to force it a ittle, but it won't turn/rotate any further. I did not force it too much so that I won't break it. Does it have something inside of it that can cause it to get stuck? Some sort of mechanism?

Dell Inspiron 11-3147: How do I replace the touch screen and display panel?

My display screen has a splinter crack in it. The crack is dispersed enough that it doesn’t impede anything that’s displayed on the screen. I’m assuming this crack is what’s causing the touchscreen capabilities to stop working. Any help or insight would be appreciated.
