DXG Camcorder: Camcorder won't hold a charge

Hey there, in need of some help. I have a DXG-5B6V HD handheld camcorder that won't hold a charge. It was sitting in my mom's garage brand new in the box for years and I finally claimed it.

It takes a 2gb SD card, requires 4 triple A batteries and a cable charge. The SD card is brand new, as are the batteries, and the charging cable isn't damaged.

While it's charging, the screen will occasionally turn on and display a single storage option or a Direct Print option. Selecting the storage option will make the screen go black. It can sit and charge for hours and hours, but when unplugged the screen will turn on for about 30 seconds and then the device will die.

What is wrong with it? Nothing is corroded or damaged. What can I do?
