pure tempus 1: Appears not to switch on

The power button seems to have died. When I press it the display does not light up. When I first got it the power worked intermittently but then died completely. I tried a new power pack which also did not work which seems to indicate it is the switch. I opened it up but the controls seem to work through some kind of circuit board. Any ideas for how to get it working again? Cheers, Bob

DAB Radio: Bush Radio powers on with new power supply but wont tune.

Bush radio original power supply is 5.9v the lead became dodgy so I bought a third party replacement, sold as suitable for the model of radio. Replacement power supply is 6v. The radio powers on and the clock and tuner displays on the colour screen on the radio work properly, but the radio says that every station is 'not available' . Swap back to the old power supply, which isn't suitable long term because of the dodgy lead, and the radio works perfectly. The only other difference is that the old power supply has a large interference surpressor on the cord which the new one doesn't have - or if it does have it - it is in a much smaller fitting nearer the output plug. What could be causing this behaviour Any solutions?

pure tempus 1: The display kept flickering and then the whole appliance went dead

The display started to flicker and eventually went very dim. It was possible to operate the radio for a while by trial and error but eventually the radio went completely dead and has shown no sign of life. This was some years ago. I suspect a significant chip inside has blown but Pure only offer to replace it with another product at a reduced price. Unfortunately, they do not produce a direct equivalent and their new stuff looks to have drastically inferior build quality.

DAB Radio: Kenwood CR-M10DAB, defective PCBboard

Hello. I have a Kenwood CR-M10DAB radio that was incorrectly powered with a higher voltage. The only problem seems to be an integrated circuit "U5", which burned out, the printing on this component is no longer visible and I have not found a wiring diagram or other details to replace the integrated. Can someone who has this device help me with the component code or a diagram! Thanks!

DAB Radio: pure One DAB Distortion and clipping, headphone out fine

I bought a Pure One radio that had no sound. Easy fix it was a blown 7052 op amp. I have replaced it with a TDA7052A chip. Now I get speaker out. But there is distortion in the sound and it clips badly as volume is turned up. Also There's a loud buzzing when first switched on (it's always removed from mains when not in use). This noise is only from speaker, headphones work very well and no distortion at any volume. So it's a problem with output stage only.

Any suggestions what other components could cause this? i dont have any cct diagrams to help. Or is the 7072A the correct chip (photo of original below)

Any help appreciated.

thanks in advance

Andy.

Sony XDR-S50 DAB Radio: Sony XDR-S50 DAB Radio - No Ensemble

My Sony XDR-S50 DAB radio (which I’ve had since 2007) has suddenly started saying No Ensemble. If you remove the batteries for a minimum of several minutes and replace them, or press the reset button (hidden under the battery compartment door) then turn it on it rescans and finds all the stations, any of which will play. But if you switch it off and immediately back on again (without removing the batteries) it’s back to No Ensemble. I think it did this on one isolated occasion a year or more ago but had been fine since.

I guessed there might be a flash memory chip in there to holds the scan result, and that this might have failed, which seems to be confirmed by this post on this Polish forum (thanks, Google Translate!). (The DAB tuner module is marked Fontier Silicon so I simply Googled for Frontier Silicon DAB and found this post in the first page of results).

This implicates an 8 pin SOT serial EEPROM chip, so I’ve ordered a replacement.

I’m posting this to record the problem and hopefully the fix for the benefit of the community and I’ll report back. Meanwhile if anyone has experienced similar problems, please feel free to comment.
