Compal FL90: Why does the Graphics resolution goes down to 8bit when adding RAM

My doughters pc, Compal-Zitech FL90 x64bit system have a strange problem. It does not accept more than 2 G DDR2 RAM. When adding 2 G more ( max 4 G byte) the Graphics resolution goes down to 8 bit with either Vista or Windows 7, but it Works fine with XP!!!

I have tried all triks and now i am start thinking of defect mother board/chipset etc. Anybody knows what is wrong?

Original Windows is XP, but she bought it brand new with vista installed. it is Worked with 4 GBytes with xp 32.
