Sony TCM-919 Cassette-Corder: Cassette player does not turn

The unit is actually a tcm 450 but the particular model was not present on the selection list. I found it in my grandma’s drawer along with a bunch of tapes, and I’m pretty sure it worked a year ago or so. when I shoved a tape in with aaa batteries, nothing happened. I removed the tape to see if the knob thing inside was turning, and it didn’t. Ibplayed with the volume knob and all the buttons, but it was failing to work. I can feel that the cassette player is trying to make it rotate— I can feel it when I touch it with my finger while pressing the ‘play’ button, but yet, nothing is happening. Plz Help!

Cassette Player: Battery leak require board level repair

Hello, i recently get Panasonic RQ-SQ20 and try to restore it.

This is what i done so far: When i try to power it up, i don’t get a red light indicator so i try to disassemble the device. Then i desolder the board from the chassis and battery connector just fell off. I solder it back, try to power it up and still nothing. Next, i inspect the board and found it had battery leak corrosion around IC4. Then i try to scrub the board with flux and little bit of solder and some of the copper pad fell off. I tried to connect the broken pad with thin copper wire but still not working.

Here what i know so far: Main GND and VCC is getting around 1V.

What should i try next? I have a schematics but can’t really understand it properly.

Sony CFD-8: CFD-510 Cassette belt repair help

Hello!

I'm sorry the question says CFD-8, but the site doesn't have the 510 in its database.

I've been trying to fix an old CFD-510 Sony Boombox I found a while ago, everything else works pretty great, but the cassette deck needs a new belt. This is easier said than done, as the idiot who had it before me sealed the access points with a resin. After a LOT of rubbing alcohol later, I can peel back the access point, but there are things in the way, and I can't figure out how to put the belt in. Would anyone here have any idea on how to help?

'80s Magnavox Cassette Radio Boombox: Radio Cassette Player Belt Turning, Only 1 Spool Turning in Play Mode

'80s Magnavox Cassette Radio Boombox: I went to verify the cassette player worked and the tape got stuck, play button was stuck and eject wouldn't work. I opened unit and eventually got buttons unstuck. Now have determined rewind and fast-forward work, the belt turns. In play mode I can see the belt turning but only the left spool is turning, counterclockwise. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm sorry, I'm just a total novice. The right side spool is not turning and from online research, I think it is called the take-up spool. Initially when trying to play a tape, it seemed so much unraveled tape piled up on the take-up side until it jammed and seized. I've looked and can't see that there is a missing belt and haven't tried to get inside where gears are.

Cassette Player: Cassette deck is unable to properly turn cassette spools?

JVC DD-5 stereo cassette deck

In this cassette deck, there’s a rubber wheel thst spins and touches two larger white plastic wheels that the spool “pegs” go through. Spinning the white wheel makes that peg spin. The wheel dedicated to playback (the right wheel) is split into two thin wheels, and the rubber wheel will jump between the inner and outer wheel depending on whether you are fast-forwarding or playing back the tape.

If I trick it into thinking there’s a cassette in there, it’ll happily spin. Sometimes it doesn’t spin the white wheels properly, but most of the time it does.

When I insert an actual cassette, it will start spinning, and the second the tape is pulled taught, it auto-stops. If I press play, I can hear the motors spin, and I can see the rubber wheel spinning one of the thin white wheels, but it isn’t enough to move the peg. It’s like the peg isn’t entirely attached to the wheel? It jumps to the inner wheel of the two sections when playing back, and when fast-forwarding it jumps to the outer ring. Playing back, it succeeds in spinning the wheels, but the pegs kinda get stuck. If I loosen the tape, it does spin the peg until, as I mentioned, the tape gets tight. Then it stops, kinda like it’s reacting to the tape not moving.

I can move the spools with my finger, and it doesn’t feel unusually tight.

Sony walkman wm-4: Sound Checks on Walkman WM-4

I've got myself a WM-4 from ebay, in more or less alright nick. Opening it up to check an issue with it's potentiometer a belt snapped. I've now replaced both belts with new ones, and had a quick look at the potentiometer problem.

I am now stuck on a sound quality issue along with the volume meter problem. I only listened to it for half a song before the belt snapped initially, so I don't know if it's my tinkering or a consequence of the Potentiometer. I've cleaned the head, pinch wheel and capstan system, but not demagnetized yet, though I doubt this is the issue.

The potentiometer is spinning round and round instead of the set limit it's supposed to have, and clicks on or off jumping to random volumes and channels. What is it's part number? does any one have the Manual for the WM-4? Would it be worth finding and using contact cleaner on it?

I would love any advice you have. Regards

Cassette Player: How do I repair headphone jack on a cassette walkman?

Hi,

I got an Aiwa HS-G35MKIV Walkman. Overall it is in a good condition but the headphone jack is bothering me. I have two problems and I try to explain it as good as I can.

First problem:

It is supposed to be stereo. When I plug it in (a little bit) sound comes out of the right headphone pad, when I plug it all the way in it comes out of the left headphone pad.

Second problem, and the one that bothers me the most: When I listen on my headphones there is a weird noisy sound. It comes out of the headphones and sounds like a mixture of hissing and high frequent tinitus (fieping / pipeing). When I turn up the volume to max it is unbearable. When I lower it I am getting used to it but still annoying me. When I turn down the 10kHz on the equalizer it also gets a little bit better. When I get the 3.5mm cable a little bit out of the headphone jack and but a certain kind of pressure on it the noise disappears. I believe that maybe the headphone jack is a little bit loose and I want to fix it. Hope someone is able to help me.
