Sony Walkman: The cassette door is stiff to open when a cassette is present.

sony walkman wm-d3

The cassette door is stiff to fully open when a cassette is present, but fine when empty. Extensions on the plastic window, latch onto the metal parts of the cassette tray. So much force needs to be applied that I think the plastic parts of the window will wear out even more and fail. The workaround is to use a thumbnail to get some added force on the cassette. Fiddly and not customer pleasing. Otherwise rock the door backwards and forwards about eight times to tease the cassette out.

This problem occurs with all my cassettes. I have tried filing 0,5mm off the top of one (scrap) cassette (adjacent to the recording protection breakouts), so the sprung clips do not hold the cassette so firmly (customer isn't jogging with it!) but no improvement.

Other info: I replaced the counter belt and adjusted the door catch tension, both successfully.

Any solution to this niggling problem or are all old Walkman like this?

Sony CFD-8: CFD-510 Cassette belt repair help

Hello!

I'm sorry the question says CFD-8, but the site doesn't have the 510 in its database.

I've been trying to fix an old CFD-510 Sony Boombox I found a while ago, everything else works pretty great, but the cassette deck needs a new belt. This is easier said than done, as the idiot who had it before me sealed the access points with a resin. After a LOT of rubbing alcohol later, I can peel back the access point, but there are things in the way, and I can't figure out how to put the belt in. Would anyone here have any idea on how to help?

Sony Walkman: Why is my Walkman WM-FX193 making a buzzing noise?

My cassette player has been making this droning, electric buzzing noise when playing tapes recently, not sure how to describe it properly but it‘s like an electric mosquito getting incrementally louder. I tried playing multiple tapes, ones that previously did not have such noise, and they all had it. The fm/am works marvellously still.

I tried swabbing the player head, and it got rid of the buzz for a short while and then it would come back again.

Sony CFS 201L: Cassette Take-up reel fails to

I’ve had this Sony since early 90s. I finally decided to fix it. I took it apart, cleaned everything, replaced the disintegrated belt and reconnected.

FF works, RW works. When I press play I can hear the recording, but the tape spills out after it runs through the capstan and pinch roller. The take-up spool/reel/spindle does not move.

I’ve checked the tire wheel which is supposed to drive the take-up spool with friction and it slips. So I cleaned the tire wheel rubber and dried it, which seemed to improve it as I turned the capstan manually. But as soon as I add power the take-up spool hardly moves and the tape spews out.

I cant see how to improve it - it can’t be the drive belt as it’s new. The spring which pushes the tire wheel against the take-up spool works well - Is there a drive that I cannot see under the take-up spool? Or should I replace the rubber on the tire roller? If so, where do I get that from?! Any help appreciated.

'80s Magnavox Cassette Radio Boombox: Radio Cassette Player Belt Turning, Only 1 Spool Turning in Play Mode

'80s Magnavox Cassette Radio Boombox: I went to verify the cassette player worked and the tape got stuck, play button was stuck and eject wouldn't work. I opened unit and eventually got buttons unstuck. Now have determined rewind and fast-forward work, the belt turns. In play mode I can see the belt turning but only the left spool is turning, counterclockwise. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm sorry, I'm just a total novice. The right side spool is not turning and from online research, I think it is called the take-up spool. Initially when trying to play a tape, it seemed so much unraveled tape piled up on the take-up side until it jammed and seized. I've looked and can't see that there is a missing belt and haven't tried to get inside where gears are.

I actually have both a Sony Walkman WM-FX453 and FX463. They do the same exact thing. I put in batteries and the display turns on and the cassette player works just fine. But when I take the battery out, all of a sudden the display blinks the current time, then E. It does this for at least a minute for the FX463 and its been at least 5 minutes and it is still doing it for the FX543.
