Canon PowerShot SX160 IS: Why does my camera not hold the date and time?

EVERY time I turn on my camera a screen comes up asking me to set a date and time. I do so, it says the date and time is as I set it. However, when I turn it back on the same screen comes up. When pictures are downloaded in my computer. the time is set to 1980!!

I am getting the above error message when ever turn on. The shutter turns on very briefly then camera switches off. I have changed the CR1220 battery and the AA. Still getting error

I purchased a PowerShot SX 160 IS about a year ago - here are the symptoms: The LCD display works - however it does not act as a view finder. I cannot see the image I'm trying to shoot. When I turn on camera the LCD defaults to "Date/Time" screen. I repeatedly set the date / time, etc. When I turn off camera, the info is lost - date / time is all reset to "0". Leaving date / time screen and pushing "menu" LCD screen is grainy. When pushing "dis" button the typical selections appear, I believe. Scrolling to the "tools" tab, I see "mute" with on/off selections. I am able to make selections and changes I make remain when I turn camer off and then back on. When I take a shot the image is completely black. I have removed and replaced the "AA" batteries and memory card. No change

Although I did replace the battery, this has not solved the problem as it continues to not hold the date/time, but this information has to be reentered each time the camera is turned on again.

I recently bought a canon powershot sx160 IS from a flea market and the batteries were so bad corroded, I think some leaked into the internals.I opened it up and saw some light rust on the corners, but I dont know what parts to be careful of. Is there any way recommended to fix it?

Sadly I dropped the camera I use for videoing my dog doing parkour and smashed the lens into pieces. I can't find the part online. Can't afford a new camera so hopefully you guys can let me know if it is even possible to replace that part and ideas on how to find the part .

i have a canon SX160 IS

its taken small bumps from time to time with no issue, i really do try to take care of it but it isnt easy when your jerk dogs do what they can to get to what they want to bump it.

it took a small drop today, but seemed fine, i turned it on a few hours later, fine, i even took a nice picture.

after left alone on a shelf (where my dogs cant get it) i picked it up an hour later to take another picture, the problem? the lens opened about halfway then stopped.

lens error.

i turned it on again, it opened to 8X zoom then another lens error.

now it just sits like that, the lens wont move but sounds like its trying.

the lens appears not to be just a little stuck, its COMPLETELY stuck.

i cant move it whatsoever and im actually thinking of opening it to take a look.

any help?

The on / off button is not turning on the camera. But can be used to turn it off. However when I close the battery compartment door the camera automatically turns on. Please help. I have not dropped my camera.
