Canon PowerShot G12: Camera image not projected on LCD screen

I have a powershot G12 and I need help troubleshooting my issue. The problem is that somehow the image is not getting displayed on the screen.

When you turn the camera on you see a blank screen with the setting information displayed. Now, for some reason when you press down on the back middle of the camera the display lights up with an image. So clearly the LCD screen isn’t broken. I have managed to take a picture while pressing down and without pressing down. In playback mode the picture I took without pressing down shows up as a completely black image whereas the picture I took while pressing down shows up regularly even if I’m not pressing down on the camera.

I would be really grateful if someone could help me identify the component that is malfunctioning and/or provide any insight on how to fix this problem

Edit: can someone help me identify the type of screw used here. It looks like a mix between a Philips and a Robinson but It doesn’t really looks like either. Using just a Philips heads doesn’t work (I tried).

Canon PowerShot G12: Wired colours on my LCD. Pictures are fine.

Hi, my canon G12 is working perfectly but the LCD is now malfunctioning. The colours on my LCD screen are as if “polarized” showing only in bright red, blue, purple and white. Also, the image is flickering when I move the screen. I haven’t used the camera in a while and never dropped it. I tried replacing the LCD but I still have the problem. I can take pictures with it that are completely fine once I download them to my PC.

Does anyone know what the issue is? Tried looking online but, I didn’t find any explanation as to what component need to be replaced (eg: main board, CCD, display board). I can find any part replacement online but, I don’t want to play trial and error as it may end up costing me more than just buying a used one. I just feel it’s a waist to throw away a perfectly good camera for an LCD issue, especially after spending so much for it back in the day.

See the video below which is what my LCD fault looks like. Thank all you! Patrick

Canon PowerShot G12: What to do when the lenses get stuck out when telephoto is used?

I have used the g10, G11, and G12 in my boat inspection business for years and have had seven G11 and G12 cameras get the lenses stuck. I sent seven to a guy on ebay in a deal to fix one in exchange for six stuck ones. This is a real problem that I would like to attempt to fix myself, as I still have three that work although one got stuck for a while and started working again for unknown reasons.

Canon PowerShot G12: Front lens cover/curtain latch not closing

So I have dismantled the camera using video instructions due to the lens error and was trying to see if the flex cable is broken, which it is (will order one). I came down to stripping the who camera also because the lens wouldnt close all the way to the end and have come to realize that at the front lens there is a latch which I can move with my finger and the protective cover closes, but when I connect it with the focus barrel it still wont go all the way to the end and that is a problem.

So I either preferably fix this somehow or in the end I will be forced to brake the latch so the lens goes all the way to the end of the barrel route and quite possibly there wont be a problem apart from not having the cover closed at any time.

Video that I found that shows this exact problem is :
replaces the lens part with another one

so I just uploaded my video : curtain latch issue

Its this IRING BARRIER thingy.

for recording and info for all purposes I leave this picture of the front cap - it takes some serious effort to take out - after this someone can really replace the lens

Any ideas greatly appreciated !!
