Canon EFS 18-55 IS Kit lens: Kit lens autofocus not focusing properly

Good afternoon everyone,

Today i present my trusty old 18-55 kit lens (F3.5-5.6) which has been gradually failing. I was teaching someone a bit about cameras and were trying to take photos and it just stopped. When holding the shutter button down half way, the lens focus ring barely moves if at all. This either requires me to manually focus my shots now or use my other non-IS lens (my 75-300 EF).

I use a 450D ancient camera and i have verified the aforementioned zoom lens works with AF perfectly, however not the kit lens.

I would assume my AF motor is toast however does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this apart from tearing it down (I'm going into this blind as there are no guides on ifixit for this seemingly common place lens).

Hello, Got a Canon pakkage with Canon EOS 600D camera and two lenses; a 50mm-0,45m/1,5ft and a Canon EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS II. The 50mm lens is working good, but the 18-55mm lens doesn't turn the camera on. The fisrt two times i tried this lens, it was working. After that it didn't anymore. Took out the simcard and batterypack and disconnected the lens. Put everything back in place and the camera was working for a small period of time. Now the camera doesn't turn on with the 18-55mm lens; camera still works good with 50mm lens. Do you have any suggestions? thank you, greetzzz, André

So basically, the top of my lens is slightly lifting on one side, which can be seen in the picture with my hand in it. Currently, it doesn't seem like too much of a concern, but I am worried that it will get worse.

Canon EF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM: Canon zoom "70-200 2.8L is" focusing infinity problem

Hi, I have a Canon zoom "70-200 2.8L is"

It has a problem in focusing at infinity.

If the lens is set to 10m and the subject at 500m the focus (autofocus) stops at about 20-30 m

If the lens is set beyond infinity the focus (autofocus) works.

I tried to adjust the trimmers present in the lens (noting the prime references) but I was unable to solve the problem.

I suspect that a slot (the last one) of the autofocus encoder is dirty or something similar.

Canon EF 600mm f4L IS USM: How does this ribbon cable connector open?

To replace a switch plate on this Canon Lens, I need to remove the ribbon cable from the brown and white connector in the lens.

This type of connector is probably used in other electronic equipment so even if you have not disassembled a lens, you may know how to open this connector.

Photo 1 shows the ribbon cable of the part I need to remove locked into the brown and white connector.

Photo 2 shows a side view of the brown and white connector.

How does this ribbon cable connector open? Does the brown part slide down in photo 1 toward the ribbon cable or does the bottom edge of the brown part lift up to release the ribbon cable?

Photo 3 show the new switch plate with the attached ribbon cable.

Photo 4 shows the new ribbon cable with the conductors exposed near the end.

The lens was first sold in September 1999 so the connector is of that vintage.

Canon said there where no instructions available when I ordered the part.
