Canon EOS Rebel XTi: Auto focus doesn't work...

My camera has been working great until recently, the AF stopped working, in any mode M or P or TV it keeps trying to auto focus goes back and forth and the #9 lights up on the right side but when I push to shoot nothing happens. In M mode I have no problem., tested the other 2 lenses I have, same thing, checked batteries, charged, I even replaced the lithium battery, I reset it to new, did all this before my next step. Curious me I removed the camera lens and took a look inside, cleaned it and then put back the lens on AF mode and it started working, but now the pics are coming half black, so I went back the and the mirror was open, closed them together and then again it went back to the non working AF.

This camera has been working fine except for the "remove the CF card" now and then, it takes amazing pictures and I'd hate to replace it.

Canon EOS Rebel XTi: Why does my shutter speed dial stop working periodically?

I have a Canon Rebel Xti that has never given me any issues except for one: Every so often (sometimes with months of perfect operation in between), I'll be in the middle of a photo shoot in TV or M mode when suddenly the shutter speed dial stops changing the shutter speed (or aperture). My camera continues to work fine in all modes as long as I don't have to use the dial. If I put my camera away for the day, it will work fine the next morning. It always happens after shooting a few or many pictures, never when I first turn the camera on. Does anyone have any idea why it does this, or if it's repairable?
