My Canon EOS 500d works fine, until i want to turn it off, and the switch does nothing. The only way to turn the camera off is to remove the battery!

Canon EOS Rebel T1i: Internal time/date battery replacement 500D

The time and date reset every time the main battery is removed for charging. This model camera does not feature direct access to this internal battery. There is posting under "Canon 500D Hard Reset" of a possible solution, with photo, on a way to access this battery saying to pry out battery cover. But on my camera just below the main battery hinge I veiwed only two vertical slots but no horizontal cuts in the plastic battery box. If I pry on the vertical slots the plastic will break. Is the backup battery really located behind these two vertical slots? If it is, could the remaining horizontal cuts be made with a Dremel tool or something similar to access the internal battery? At this time Canon no longer offers service on this model. I have not found any alternate disassembly/replacement procedures.

I bought my 500d second hand a few weeks ago, seller said he’d lost the charger i bought the camera without testing since it was mad cheap and i had money to spare. got the charger and a battery and camera is totally bricked when i switch it on no sign of life at all. if i manage to fix it it’d be great, the kit lens zoom was also stuck i fixed it myself

+ Tried pushing the battery lid switch and turning it on did not work

+ Tried without SD card / Lens

+ Batteries are working

My T1i powers on fine but when I try and take a picture, the red busy light stays on for a while but nothing gets written to the SD card. I’ve tried a brand new card and a low level format of the new card with no luck. I’ve also reset the camera to defaults - again, no luck. Also, the screen will intermittently get vertical lines across it after taking a picture (when trying to write to the card). Anyone know what causes these symptoms and how to fix?

Battery and memory card covers are in tact. Battery is charged. Switched out memory cards. Camera turns on, menu displays, but when I push the shutter, I get a "busy" error message.

The SD card slot of my Canon EOS 500D does not work anymore, with any SD card. It always says "Card write protected". So I would like to replace it but I could not find any valuable tutorial for that. Do you know how to replace the SD card slot ? And do you know where I could acquire one ?

I have had this problem for a little while now, I charge my battery up fully, and when I come to take photo's I can take maybe 1/2 dozen shots then when I take the next the red battery light comes on and a message stated recording.

I I swith the camera off the battery light stays on and drains the battery.

When a lense is connected on my t1i, the menu button, iso button, and to view picture button stops working in all the manual modes but the camera works fine on the all the auto mode. I wonder why and is there any solution rather than send it for repair?

Hi,

It looks like my stabilizer is broken. Or at least I can not focus with one of my lenses. My pictures get blurry when I zoom in.

How much will this cost to fix it? Or is it better to buy a new body??
