Canon EOS 40D: My 40D suddenly will not turn on

My 40D was working fine. I did not use it for several days and when I went to use it, it does nothing. No lights, not screens, nothing. Its as if its not turned on. I have checked all the switches in the battery door, replaced the 3v lithium internal battery. I've checked the switches in the card door. I've tried new batteries and new cards. Fully charged multiple batteries using multiple chargers. I've tried it with and without a lens, still it does nothing at all. No lights no displays of any kind. Its as if it just will not power on at all. Canon no longer repairs the 40D and there are no repair shops anywhere near me. The camera just suddenly went dead and does nothing..??

Canon EOS 40D: Canon40D won't fire up

This Canon 40D has been in the closet for 3-4 years...stored in a camera bag...with no battery or card in it. I tried using it and it won;t even fire up/ Tried charged older batteries and a new third party battery. I have read that the date/time battery in the battery door can cause this, but this camera has abattery grip and the original battery door was removed. It belojged to my son, who passed away, so I do't know if he kept the old door or not, but it was working with this setup at one time. Any ideas on what to check?>. I want to pass this down to my grandson (his son).

Canon EOS 40D: Camera not formatting CF cards

I have 4 Compact flash cards one of which was in the camera EOS 40D and was working

I removed the flash card to transfer data to my Win 11 when i replaced the flash card back into the camera there was a message "CF card not formatted Format card with this camera" which i did and another message "Cannot format change the CF card" which i did.

Still the same messages

I then formatted all 4 cards through the computer and got the same messages on all 4 cards

The cards are

Canon FC-32M, the original card

ScanDisk 256MB

Extreme 128GB 120MB/s which was the card i was using in the camera

Extreme Pro 32GB 160 MB/s brand new

I have checked the pins in the card slot and they are fine

My feelings are that its the camera or camera soft/firmware as the new card should have just slotted in

Any help i would be grateful

Canon EOS 40D: Rubber door for DC power adapter cable

Hello from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil!

I’ve been checking some of my older equipments and noticed in my 40D that the small rubber door for the DC power adapter cable (on the inner bottom of the grip of the body, around where the pinky would rest) close to the battery door, was completely dried out and dissolving into particles…

I decided to take it off but can’t find a replacement for it. The ones I’ve found that looks more similar are for 5d/5dII, for 60/70D, and for the 7D, but I don’t know if any of these would really fit well in the 40… the are just rectangular and looking more alike than the other models do. The service and parts manual of any of these cameras talk about this little rubber door.

Next is the picture of what’s left from it trying to see if the numbers would point me to any direction…

And this is from the parts manual where it is located:

Another tip that I would appreciate is what needs to be disassembled to reinstall the part if I find one… I’ve been observing and maybe the bottom plate is the piece I need to pull of, but maybe I need to follow a determined order to get the bottom plate of…

Thank you very much for any help!

Canon EOS 40D: Error 001 on display. Contacts between lens are clean!

Contacts have been cleaned, but were not dirty or greasy. Upon closing of the battery door, the red light on the rear of the camera flashes once. Then by switching on the camera “cannot create folder” appears on the display. This disappears after switching OFF and ON again. Pushing the exposure button the ERR 001 appears.

The battery discharged quickly even with the camera OFF. To me it looks like a short circuit somewhere.

But today I at opening one of my pictures in Illustrator I saw Can’t open the illustration. The illustration contains an incomplete or garbled object description.

My Canon 40D will not fire from the main body, it will only fire from a battery grip. I have tried various lenses and also with the battery grip removed. The main body will not fire, it just makes a bleeping noise as if its about to fire. I have set it back to factory settings but still no joy.
