Canon Speedlite 430EX II: Why is my flash making a high pitched whine constantly?

This flash has been functioning in the past, but recently I detached it from an Off-camera Flash Hotshoe Connector Cord while it was still on, and it fried it somehow. It smelled like fried electronics and now it won't turn off. The only way I can make it stop its high pitched whining is by removing the batteries. As soon as I put the batteries back in, it starts whining again. Also, it no longer shows anything on the screen and doesn't respond when I attach it to my camera. Is there a way to repair this?

Canon Speedlite 430EX II: Speedlite 430 EX ii wires resoldering

Hi Everyone,

So I was shooting on a tripod this afternoon when I suddenly tripped on said tripod. It fell on the floor with the flash mounted to top of the camera. The top part of the flash detached leaving the base mount stuck in the camera. Only 3 wires out of 5 remained soldered. I had to force-remove the remaining wires in order to be able to detach the mount from the camera. Here's a picture to better illustrate what I mean. Besides that, I might need to work on the lock mechanism which seems a little off as well.

So the big question for now is which wire goes where? if someone has a diagram, that would be great as I couldn't find any online.

Thanks in advance!

Canon Speedlite 430EX: Canon Speedlight 430EX wont flash. Everything else seems to work?

First of all, excuses for my possible bad English.

The point with the flash is that everything seems to work, I can hear the condensator but the pilotlamp will not start to glow green or red. It's not working at all and the flashlite will not work. When it should be the lamp, I can imagine that at least the pilotlamp will glow up. So, can it be the condensator that is not working anymore?

I hope there is an answer for it. Tnx in advance.

Canon Speedlite 430EX: Speedlite 430EX I - Capacitor/Transformer/Inverter Troubleshooting.

Hi there,

I'm repairing a Speedlite 430EX I and I need help on part values.

I have the service manual/schematics, but Canon does not list the individual parts, and instead wants you to buy the entire pcb which they've discontinued.

My guess is it's only a capacitor or transformer that needs replacing.

The rest of the flash turns on and seems fine.

There's a loud whining noise when I turn it on. And the flash does not fire when I press the Pilot button.

1. I want to ask if someone can test the C2 capacitor that stores the flash charge and see what the required uF is, as well as the rated voltage.

2. If someone can tell me a part number for the T1 transformer, as well as the gauge of winding wire and how many turns. The schematic shows it has 3 windings.

If you can tell me as well what the voltage is that is delivered from the battery before it reaches the transformer, and what it is on each of the two windings.

This should give us a reasonable idea of what the transformer spec is to either find a replacement or wind our own.

I've also read it might be the Q6 or Q7 inverter:

Why is my flash making a high pitched whine constantly?

In that case, can someone give me the part number of Q6 and Q7 or tell me whether either is PNP or NPN, as well as C B E tests between legs of each out of circuit?

Any advice?

Thank you! I will share any solutions I find here.

Canon Speedlite 430EX II: Why is my flash not reloading power and thus, not firing?

Hello All,

I have a problem with my Canon 430EX II Speedlite. It doesn't want to fire anymore. But , to my frustration and juste to give me some hope, it fires occasionally (usually one time only just after powering it up but not always). It looks like it doesn't charge the capacitors anymore... or something like that.

What do you think could be the cause ? I would like to be able to repair it. The tube isn't broken because it still fires. I don't understand.

Thanks,
