Respironics CPAP: Relentless reboots, but runs fine once started.

Worked fine originally after receiving donated used unit. After a few months, pushing the start button would beep, display logo, display FW version, display flow rate, spin up the blower, then go dark and start the cycle over.

Eventually, the blower stays on and it runs through my sleep cycle like nothing ever happened. This normal state might be reached after 20 restarts. Also, after some random restart count it will stay off, requiring a replug power-up to begin the restart cycle anew, up to three replugs and about 20min being a worst case. Best case it fires up after about 10 restarts. I just realized I've never checked the display before a replug so I'll do that tonight. I checked, it goes blank when it's all beeped out.

All functions, settings, and input buttons work as expected after running, including the humidifier. No leaks or bad gaskets, blower spins freely. About to replace PCA button battery but the old one had good voltage. Contact cleaner used when resetting every jack. Power supply good. Filters clean. I'll be rechecking all of these things one more time plus a picky board inspection, but I don't expect to find a problem at component level.

I can't imagine what kind of consistent, repeatable error could exist with no fault found. It behaves as if some sensor feedback is telling the algorithm that it can't run or start. Considering getting a serial adapter module and downloading the tech software but I have never seen an error code on the display.

Subjectively, 3 things I find interesting are:

1) the restart blower puff seems to gain volume and power up to the running state; if it dwindles or remains lame it's likely restart attempts will stop until a replug

2) dial digit 4 is slightly dim, but lights as expected

3) I checked the button battery voltage in situ, and it crept upwards. I've never seen this before but some reading tells me their may be an intentional capacitor storage, maybe to kick start the blower or something.

I could talk about this all night, given that a new machine will run me $1400CDN.

ResMed AirSense 10: pressure suddenly rises, then shuts down, and shows error

During normal use, and typically during the first 10 to 20 minutes of operation, the CPAP pressure will suddenly rise greatly for 5 to 10 seconds and then the machine will shut down. The screen shows: Error: System fault, refer to user guide, Error 001. From doing a little research on the problem, I understand that this error refers to either a faulty blower motor, or pressure sensor. The blower sounds perfectly normal during usual operation, and it was replaced by Resmed service just over a year ago, so I'm inclined to think the problem is likely not the blower motor. Is there any way to determine if the problem is the blower, or the pressure sensor?
