Buffalo MiniStation: Buffalo Thunderbolt port broken but USB 3 works

This drive is out of warranty so my only option would be fixing it if possible. The drive is a Buffalo MiniStation Thunderbolt bus powered drive that also has USB 3.0. The thunderbolt stopped working yet the USB 3.0 works fine. I have two of these drives and the other currently works with thunderbolt. Is there any way to fix the thunderbolt port? Thanks

My buffalo ministation suddenly became inaccessible, there is no display of it in my laptop and everytime I connect it to my laptop there is sound coming out of it.

Is there a way a Buffalo DriveStation (2TB), which I use for recording TV programs, can be optimized or defragged? I'm having the same problem as the last DriveStation (1TB) I replaced with this one and I was wondering if there was a way to fix it. The problem is that it doesn't always record programs to their completion and/or there is bad pixilation interspersed on some shows I record,(but not all).

Any clues?
