Brother MFCL2700: Printer won't stay connected to network, drops constantly!

I bought this printer a year ago. Since getting a new modem/router, the printer WILL NOT stay connected to my wifi. I am able to successfully configure it and it works for an hour or so but the next day it displays an error message of "check connection".

I am beyond frustrated and I refuse to reset it up each and every time I have to print. I called Brother and their response was that the printer needs to be within three to five feet of the router (???!?!?). They said that the printers are "very sensitive" yet it's a "wifi issue, not a printer issue".

I never would have spent $150 for a wifi printer that needs to be literally next to my modem to work. I may as well have it wired directly. I have a small condo (1000 square feet) and the printer is in the room next to where my modem is located. It's maybe twenty or thirty feet away. There is no solid wall separating the two rooms--there's a large double doorway between them.

I'm so frustrated and upset that something so new and not inexpensive is useless. Do I have any options to keep the machine from constantly dropping the connection? I read somewhere else about "fixing" the IP address but before I mess with that want to make sure that is the right thing to do. Thanks!

Brother Printer: MFC-J4510DW paper jams exiting machine after printing

My printer prints the entire page, but then when it feeds the page to the front tray after printing it comes partially out, then you hear the rollers spinning, and then it displays front jam. There is nothing visibly stuck in the machine, having followed the troubleshooting steps several times. Pulling the paper out and then lifting the front of the machine and then closing it clears the jam message and resets the machine, but it does this every time I print. I changed out to fresh paper but that didn't help. Brother support had no answer and the local authorized service center cost to examine and repair was almost if not more than a new similar machine.

Just looking for steps I can try to fix the problem myself before buying a new printer.

Brother Printer: Brother Hl-l3230cdw goes offling

Since I've changed to the new Telstra Gen 4 modem my wifi networked Brother printer keeps going offline after a few hours. It shows that on my PC and all the other PC's (including Macs) around the house. What is unusual is the wifi light on the printer stays solid green even though it is offline (it flashes when it is not wifi connected).

I'm aware that this printer has a 'Deep Sleep' mode. I've turned this off. It goes to 'Sleep' however after a few minutes but stays online when it is already connected to the network.

But after about 8 hours or so, it goes offline.

Restarting the printer establishes wifi connection to the router (the wifi light goes solid green) but doesn't bring the printer online to the home network. This makes no sense to me at all.

The only way that I can bring this printer back online is by restarting the modem which is highly inconvenient to all the other users in the house which are using the internet as these modems take about 10 minutes to reboot.

I've tried DHCP reservation and static IP (not together). But this offline pattern remains.

I've updated the printer firmware, even factory resetted, but it does not fix this behaviour.

I've tried to bring the printer back online from my PC using both windows and brother drivers. I've opened several suggested ports on my PC firewall and I have tried direct access using the printers IP address and RAW printing protocol (opening port 9100). But I can't get through to the printer when it shows it is offline. As mentioned, the only way is to re-boot the modem.

None of the online PC's exhibit any problem with the modem via wifi. They always stay connected. PCs come back online when restarted, no problem. They do not need a modem reboot any time. So I'm assuming the modem is working properly.

It is wearable if the printer decides to go offline after several hours, but not ideal. But it is not workable if the only way to bring it back online is to keep rebooting the modem every time.

Brother Printer: HL-2280DW paper feed not working

I have a Brother 2280DW workhorse of a printer. I love the wireless/scanning/duplexing features, but am wondering if this problem is fixable.

Brother MFC-L2740DW: Printer stops partway through printing. Indicates a paper jam.

Hi all,

Perhaps someone here has had the same problem with this model or family of printers and has found a solution.

I’ve cleaned all the rollers that I can find:

1) Pickup rollers in the paper drawer,

2) Under the drum/cartridge,

3) At the back of the printer through the tilting cover,

4) At the final output.

I followed Brother’s advice and used alcohol first but then bought a rubber renew product by MG Chemicals called “Rubber Renue”. The latter took made the rollers fresh-looking again. Be careful that you don’t get it on the plastic parts as it seems to melt them a little. :^)

It still didn’t work so I called Brother and they had me go through some steps to see where in the paper path the problem was happening. To do so, they asked me to open the back door, feed paper into the single sheet feeder, and then press the following key combination to get into a maintenance mode:

Please read the following instructions carefully in order to access the MAINTENANCE menu of your Brother Printer.

1. Please make sure the screen of the printer is on the home screen. If it is not, please press on the Red [X] to return to the home screen.

2. Press on [FAX] - The [Home] Icon will light up.

3. Press and hold the [Home] Icon until the screen changes to a black screen with four rectangles. It will first go back to the Home screen, keep holding it and it will change again.

4. Press and hold the bottom rectangle until a Number Pad appears on the screen.5. On the Number Pad, please enter the following 5 code numbers in order, as quickly as possible: [*] – [2] – [8] – [6] – [4].

6. If the code is entered correctly, the screen should display: MAINTENANCE right above the Number Pad.

7. Now press 77 and press Mono Start.

After about 10 seconds it should print out a diagnostic page. Mine jammed, of course.

In the picture below you can see how far the paper travelled until it jammed in my printer…

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
