BlackBerry Bold 9000: charging light blinking, no display

hi, another day another problem. My multimeter is without battery so I am unable to test continuity or battery charge. This phone belongs to a friend and he's asked me to try and fix it..this is not a phone I am selling which is why I ask (usually I will do my own research but this time I haven't found a solution)(and no this is not the complete piece of junk I did buy today!)

His story is the phone suddenly turned off. When I connect to mains charger you get a solid red light for about 30 seconds then the red light blinks four times, then off for 4 seconds. No display, no warmth on the battery. I have checked the pins for the dock and the battery, visually look ok. Taken the phone apart, the tab for warranty was still intact, no idea where water sticker may be but no signs of corrosion.

What I've tried so far... put on charger, battery removed for a few minutes then replaced (got that idea from a forum) plug in to mac, hold power button for very long time (also from forum)

I've put the bb disc in the mac, but think it's a windows thing.. am I wrong? either way the mac didn't see the phone via USB but the red light is now constantly on.

The forum mention that a completely dead battery needs to be "trickle charged" back to life..

no.1 buy new battery..... any other pearls of wisdom? As you know I fix iphone 3G's so this is not my thing. Any help or advice greatly appreciated.x

BlackBerry Bold 9700: Are LCDs on Ebay Any Safe?

So I'm going to buy a blackberry 9700 from a friend of my. The LCD is broken, and I've seen many prices differences on the internet. Like on ebay, it varies from approx. $30- $90. I understand that there are various types of LCDs for it. For example 001 or 002. But what I'm wondering is that is it a good idea to buy it on ebay?

Blackberry Bold 9900: How can I access critical data on internal memory when handset dead?

My Blackberry Bold 9900 has died. It had a working battery with charge but went dead. I changed battery multiple times and even tried a brand new OEM battery which works ok in another handset but still nothing other than sometimes a red flashing light which then either stops and the handset returns to being totally dead or I get a picture of a battery with a red x in the middle.

I have critical data stored on it which I need to get off....yes I had backed it up religiously twice weekly with the Desktop Manager due to the how important the data is but my pc (along with the dedicated backup drive) died at the weekend so my Blackberry is the only place where I have the outlook data (calendar/task/email) info which is so critical.

Do you know of a way to extract data from a handset that won't power up? Vodafone's 'red box' can only transfer data off the device if its powered up but if I could get it to power up, I could use the Desktop Manager to get the information myself. I've tried leaving it for periods to charge and then removing the battery and re-inserting, turning on with the charger plugged into the mains and pressing the on button whilst connecting the charger and then putting the battery in but neither have worked thus far. I've installed the Desktop Manager on my son's pc but again, because the handset won't power up it cant connect.

Any suggestions greatly received please! :)
