Beats Solo 2: Help Diagnosing - Right Side not Working

Hi all,

I was hoping to get a second opinion on a pair of Beats Solo 2's I just picked up from the thrift. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to headphone repair so I wanted to make sure I'm on the right path before spending any money on them.

I tested them on 2 different audio sources with 2 different cables, so the problem is definitely in the headphones themselves.

I've used a multi meter continuity function to test the two wires (R and RG) from the left side to the right, and both sides have continuity. I've also tested the continuity between the jack's right side input and the jack's ground and the continuity is good to the pads on the right side.

When I measured the resistance between the positive and negative pads on both sides of the headphones, the left (good) side measured in at 30 ohms, while the right (bad) side measured in at 650 ohms.

This leads me to believe the driver itself is bad, correct? Hoping to get some corroboration before I pull the trigger on a new driver. Thanks!

So the problem is that the headphones will work with the aux but if I try to turn them on it won't work. Also if I have them plugged into a charger they will be on but as soon as I unplug them they turn off so it might be something wrong with the power button.

Beats Solo 2: Leather covering on my ear cushion is peeling off--do I replace it?

I’ve been having a slight problem lately where the leather covering the foam on the ear cushion is starting to peel out. I used to be able to wedge it back into place with my fingernail, but I think I’ll probably have to find a more permanent answer soon. Can I just glue it back into place, or is that bad for the earphones? Should I replace the whole ear pad?

Also, would the answer be different if it was just a Solo rather than Solo2? The headphones are actually Solo, but not the HD version or anything. I don’t think there’s really a huge difference between the two.

Beats Solo 2: My beats solo3 will not turn on.

So, since last night I have had this problem where my beats won’t turn on. So last night I was using my beats, and it was at 1% so I charged it, and automatically went to fully charged, so I tried to connect and won’t turn on. I plugged it in and it turned into a red light. I reset by pressing the power button and volume down button, but no success. Again I’ve tried turning them on but it goes from fully charged to red light in a couple of seconds, and today it just won’t turn off. I’m not sure if this is a battery issue, but still, I’m not sure what to do.

Beats Solo 2: Right Ear Issue After Main Wire Replacement

Recently my Beats Solo 2 Wired stopped working in the right ear with no audio playing. Sometimes it would work if you shook the device but after taking it apart and doing a full wire replacement the issue persists.

I’m reading online this could mean its a full speaker failure but I am afraid of investing another $15 after buying a $7 and $15 ear muff replacement. All this totaling near the $55 it would have took to send it in to a shop.

Does anyone know of how to properly diagnose if this indeed is a speaker problem or could be something larger.
