BMW Motorcycle: Why won’t my 1999 BMW r1100rs start?

My 1999 BMW r1100rs has been sitting for 6 months, it ran great before. I keep the battery tendered and start he engine once per week and let it run for 5 min. I went on vacation and stopped this process and when I came back in 2 months the bike will not start. It tries, but backfires and dies out after seconds. I drained and replaced the gas, and replaced the spark plugs. Air filter is clean..... any ideas ?

I have checked the kill switch and foot stand switch both seem normal. The battery is on a BMW maintainer, is fully charged and new. Engine turns over but will not catch. There are no service locations in my area as I am visiting Grenada. Looking for a service manual that will load to a MAC or ipad as last resort. Thanks Richard

BMW Motorcycle: Why wont 1985 bmw k100 stay running

have 1985 bmw k100. turn key, hear fuel pump. press starter, bike starts right up, then sputters and dies. then hear fuel pump again, will start right up again, sputter and die. when engine starts, i dont hear fuel pump. I have changed the ECU and the fuel pump relay.

BMW Motorcycle: Metal in Oil after seize

After my 1970 BMW R50/5 seized, I took off the oil pan to find it had a great lot of ferrous metal pieces in it. The bike was in great up to date shape. Is there anything in my cycle that would supply such thin metal during a seize, or was this vandalism.

BMW Motorcycle: Why will my K 1200S not start after Start Supression?

I am wondering if anyone can help me with this issue. If I accidentally attempt to start the bike in gear, the start suppression will prevent this from happening. However if I then take it out of gear and attempt to start it normally, it won’t start. It sounds like the battery is flat. It has enough ergs to just crank the engine over but not enough to start. I have had to wait sometimes up to 15 minutes before I can start the bike again.

After 15 minutes or so, everything seems to return to normal and it will start just fine.

The battery is just the same as it was when it sounded like the battery was flat but now it cranks the engine over just fine.

Any suggestions?

BMW Motorcycle: K1200LT Shuts Down mystery

Hey guys,

I have a 2000 K1200LT with 23k on the clock. Last week I was traveling to the NJ shore, and the weather was hot. Bike was not overheating, and the temperature gauge was exactly in the middle. I had a little more than a quarter tank of gas, and I had no issue traveling at a highway speed of 65 mph. The engine was sounding great, and I have had no mechanical issues, other than replacing the fuel pump, with the bike since I bought it at 14K. At the bottom of the exit ramp, the bike shuts off and I was able to roll to a safe spot on the side of the road. At first I thought, somehow, the gas gauge was wrong, which has never been a problem, so I put in another gallon of gas. The bike would start but only for about 5 seconds and then shut down again. I was able to park it at a local Public Storage and came back the next week to have it towed to my mechanic. Of course, the bike started right up and stayed running. It has been at my mechanic's shop for the last week, and he also can't get it to repeat the problem despite running it for hours. This feels like an electrical/digital issue and not a mechanical problem. Could it be the water pump wasn't keeping up with the temperature of the engine and a sensor shut the bike down? Does anybody have any clues of what I was experiencing that we might track down to figure this out?

I shipped my 2020 BMW R1250R from the US to Germany and when it arrived it wouldn’t turn on. No lights, no TFT, nothing. I took the battery to BMW, they tested it and charged it and said it was good. Still nothing. I checked the fuse next to the battery and its good. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The motor starts and runs for about 10 seconds then stops. When it stops it appears the fuel pump starts up and continues to run, can restart with same results.

2005 1200GS, 5424 miles, still has the 2005 license plate installed. Got it cranked but, if it had carbs I would say that they were flooding. I have only ridden it around the parking lot.

bike has 57k miles on it, I replaced clutch- spring-plate, lubed splines.

went back together fine, but! Its not working, not going into gear.......................

Could the rod, from the clutch slave cylinder, to the clutch be in backwards?

Seemed like it went in only 1 way.

BMW Motorcycle: How to reconnect the windshield adjustment screw to the w/s bracket

I had to remove the adjustment screw on my 1997 R1100RS. When I screw it back in it bottoms out but does not actuate the adjustment. Schematics don't show anything t give me an idea of what's not working and mechanics I've talked to, including BMW shop, tell me to just screw it in. Doesn't work. Any ideas?

Hi,

My 2015 F700 GS won’t start, the battery is at optimum health and has no issues.

When I start the ignition the lights and all things on dashboard do come alive like it would normally, no sign of oil required or low gas.

The fuel pump also makes the sound of one bleep indicating it is working.

What could possibly be the issue?

I am in cold weather, minus 5 but the motorcycle was not starting since November 4 which was not cold at all.

Please help.
