Asus Zenbook UX303L: HDMI port quit working

I have had this notebook for a year, and have connected as many as two external monitors (using the thunderbolt port and HDMI port) with no problem. I just moved, and now when I set up, with an external monitor using the HDMI port, the notebook does not see it. The control panel only shows the built-in display available. I have checked the cable and the monitor and they are fine. Is it possible my HDMI port failed?

Asus Zenbook UX303L: Reversed Polarity on DC Power Supply. Can I replace Fuse/Diode on MB?

Hi,

I managed to reverse the polarity on the DC input for my laptop (cheap travel power supply with adapters). Laptop went out, reboot via battery was possible and the laptop ran until the battery was dead.

My hope is that i just smoked a fuse or a diode protecting the mainboard itself. I took the laptop apart to take pictures of the DC input area.

I have some experience in soldering (little in SMD), have a multimeter and an oscilloscope to debug.

Asus Zenbook UX303L: No Display Backlight. Cable, Mainboard, or Display?

Hi all,

after fixing one of the hinges of my Asus Zenbook UX303LA-R4342H, while trying to plug the display cable back into the mainboard, I accidentally let the display cable touch the mainboard. This lead to a small flash of light and it smelled burnt. (I still had the battery pluggged in.) Now the display backlight does not turn on anymore. If I shine a light through the back of the display I can see the Desktop and also with an external monitor everything works fine.

What do you think broke? Is it the mainboard, the cable or the display? How can I figure out?

Unfortunately, I don’t have any other divices on which I could test the display.

I did not see exactly where the cable touched the mainboard - I only saw the spark in the corner of my eyes - but since the cable is relatively stiff and does not have a lot of reach I think it must have touched the mainboard to the left of the connector.

I already tried unplugging the battery and holding the power button for 30s as suggested on some backlight problem questions here, but this did not help.

Here is a picture of the mainboard:

And here is the output of the CPU-Z Utility:

Update:

I took the mainboard out the check the other side. I guess I found the source of the burnt smell. The burnt part is exactly on the other side of the display connector. There are also these two smaller things further above that also seem to have burned?

What are these broken parts? Is that something I could fix?

Asus Zenbook UX303L: Won't boot after Microsoft 1803 update

Hi, This is actually for Zenbook UX303UA (not an option when choosing device). Anyway, I have multiple Asus laptops at work that won't boot up soon after installing the Spring 2018 Microsoft Windows 10 update - 1803. It just boots to a black screen and when you move the touchpad, the mouse pointer is just a spinning blue wheel. Microsoft says it must be an issue with drivers/bios, and Asus says it must be an issue with the Microsoft update. I'm wondering if anybody else has had this problem and if they were able to fix it.

Also, when pressing F9 during boot doesn't work on these laptops. Its supposed to display the hidden partition that will allow me to reset to factory defaults. Only option I can do is eventually get into Microsoft Advanced Options and reset the PC. However, it will only reset to 1803 update. So after a few reboots after resetting it, the same problem comes back. Someone please help!!

Thanks

Asus Zenbook UX303L: Not charging even after replacing power jack

Greetings,

My laptop had stopped charging although it was originally still recognizing the charger. The battery eventually drained completely and the laptop has never turned on from that point.

I believe I may have caused this issue as I had a power adapter that had gone bad (frayed wire) and I believe that to have caused a short somewhere in the laptop. I do have several chargers as my family owns several zenbooks in the same line and their chargers are identical. After the faulty charger caused the issue, other power adapters did not work either.

I brought the laptop to a professional to replace the power jack thinking that may fix the issue and now the laptop no longer recognizes any power connection at all. The bios has been reset and power up attempts have been made with the battery disconnected/re-connected. I also tried removing ram though some memory is still embedded into the board. A hard reset was attempted as well by holding the power button down for 30+ seconds. No luck :x

Are there other areas here I should be checking to troubleshoot? I would prefer not to have to replace the mother board here as they are rather expensive to replace for this model.

In doing some digging online I’ve read some Asus laptops have a “power chip” that could fry and keep a laptop from recognizing a charger, does this model contain a similar chip that could be causing this issue?

Open to any suggestions that may bring my laptop back to life

Asus Zenbook UX303L: [SOLVED] Zenbook not booting - No BIOS access

Hello,

First, my laptop worked perfectly untill yesterday. Then I had the genius idea to try a USB key bootable linux. So I prepared my hard bootable key, gently put it in my usb slot.

Trying to make it work, I had to change a few parameters in the bios configuration menu (allow boot from non-verified source & select USB key as primary boot option).

Well... it didn't work. I did several trials so I don't remember exactly what I changed with the last one from a BIOS point of view. I selected "MBR for UEFI" in the making of the portable USB key with Rufus though.

Now, my laptop won't boot, and very worst, I cannot access the bios configuration menu. When I hit start, I see the Asus splashscreen indefinetely, and nothing (I have tried any key, but I used to press "delete" to access the configuration menu) seems to change that. The keyboard backlight flashes at the beginning for around 1s, then turns off. Then it stays with the asus logo for ever.

The only thing I have noticed is that when I press "escape" at the very beginning of the now-very-short boot sequence, the Asus splashscreens disappears for a beautiful black screen.

If you have any idea and are willing to share it with me, it would be super cool as my last option is now to throw the laptop against my backyard tree.

Thank you very much !
