Asus X551CA: Keyboard malfunction, hardware or software problem?

Okay so i know this is not the keyboard itself because i have replaced it and didn't fix the problem. Scanned my whole computer and found no viruses, what the problem is, is that if i were to press key "3" that's above letter "E" it would show up as ".74231" if i press letter "E" the results i get are "hge9+" also the caps lock and spacebar act like this, not every key but about a handful of them do. I have already tried the "fn" "num lk" technique but it still does it.

Asus X551CA: Why can't I see the SSD connected via USB port under "My Computer"

Hi all,

I decided to upgrade my Asus X550CA laptop with a Crucial SSD. I wanted to clone my existing hard drive however when I connected the SSD to my laptop via USB connector, I could not find it under My Computer.

I have tried to find am answer with no luck. When I go in disk management I can see the new SSD there in the bottom half. At the top half i see only C: and D: drives. Also, the driver for the new SSD is installed because I can see the SSD in Device Manager and I can elect it to unplug. So it seems that windows is not assigning it a drive letter. I have windows 8.1.

Has anyone one had a similar issue?

Thanks in advance,

Asus X551CA: Asus laptop loop restart

So I recently got an Asus SonicMaster and while it was updating my laptop died. (Yes I had it plugged in, but not all the way I guess) When I plugged it back in, I turned it on and it went to the blue update screen (where it says percentage of update) then restarted back to the power on logo (Asus in search of incredible logo). I can't F8 or anything, but if I press ESC it opens the BIOS Utility display. Any help of what's going on appreciated. Running windows 10

Asus X551CA: Keyboard types odd characters

Hi all, I actually have an Asus X550CA

My Keyboard is typing odd characters...

Examples, first is lowercase and then upper case holding shift down.

Pressing the L key types /l and /L

Pressing the C key types c. and C>

Pressing the # key types +\ and +|

Pressing the \ key types < and >

Pressing the . key types c. and C>

Pressing the down arrow key types - and - (no change with the shift key)

Pressing the 9 key types .9 and ( (with shift key it types correctly)

Pressing Shift + 3 key types #

Pressing . on the numpad key types .9

Pressing 2 on the numpad key types 2o

Pressing / on the numpad key types /l and /L

Pressing + on the numpad key types +\ and +|

I think that's it, this happens in windows and it happens in a linux mint live CD. I've also tried a few other linux distro's but the results are the same.

Has anyone else seen this behaviour?

I would have thought this pretty much points to a faulty keyboard but would like to hear your views.

Asus X551CA: How to remove damaged screws?

Might not be specific to this exact laptop model, but I am wondering if anyone has any methods for removing damaged or “stripped” screws. Need to take out 8 screws from this laptop so that I can get to the battery, but it has proven difficult due to damage and only 3 were easily removed. I’ve tried the rubberband method and I’ve tried drilling into them. At this point, I wouldn’t oppose prying it open if I can get almost all of the screws out… any tips?
