Asus ROG G751JL-BB17T29: 0% battery, not charging. Laptop turns off when gaming.

So like 5 months ago my ROG G751JY didnt want to charge to 100% anymore. I didn't like it but never used it without the AC, so I didn't think much of it. So I went away for a week so i disconnected the AC - when I came back the battery was dead. It says "0% available (plugged in, charging). I know these batteries have a short life span, but isn't it weird that it all of a sudden went from about 95% to 0%?

I thought it wasn't really a big deal since I always use it with the AC, but recently when I am gaming the laptop just turns off. I can turn it on right away - so it seems it loses power for half a second or something, which is enough to turn it off.

Seems like my battery serve another purpose than running with no AC. And it also provides extra current during high demand usage like heavy gaming, and also carry my computer through brownouts. In my case this prevents me from actually using the laptop for other things than browsing...

I have tried to uninstall the battery drivers, tried holding the power button on for 60 seconds. Next step is to reset to factory, and reinstall windows 10. Would also like to flash my BIOS, but I guess I can't do that since my battery is at 0%.

Anybody managed to fix this without opening the thing and replacing it with a 100 euro battery?

Thanks

Asus ROG G751 Laptop: Asus G751JY won't recognize AC adapter or charge; how to diagnose?

My laptop, an ASUS ROG G751JY gaming laptop, worked perfectly for about 3 years, then all of a sudden last week it would stop recognizing the charger when it was playing intense games (i.e. when hot). It would start charging again after a reboot or sometimes if I unplugged and replugged multiple times. I took it apart to clean the fans, which lowered the temps a little bit, but didn’t really stop the problem. Then a day or two after that, it just stopped charging altogether. It still turns on but since I can’t make it charge, the battery will die soon.

I’m not sure how to diagnose this. Bad charger? Bad charging port? Bad motherboard? I saw on ASUS’s ROG forums that many people have trouble with their charge port but the cheapest one I saw online that didn’t look like a scam was $110. I don’t want to just have to guess and end up buying the wrong thing, as parts seem to be pricy so I want to make sure to get the right thing. I don’t have any multimeters or anything either. Maybe someone more experienced can guess as to what the problem is?

Asus ROG G751 Laptop: Asus G751JY Laptop won't power on (no lights)

Model: G751JY-T7094H

Hi,

The laptop stopped suddenly while in use and since I couldn’t start it again. No lights on even when plugged in. I tested the power supply and the multimeter indicated 19.5v as expected. I also tested the battery (not sure though if it is meaningful) and the expected voltage was what I read. I replaced the CMOS battery (I don’t know if this was necessary).

I need some guidance about what to replace. Which tests can I perform to identify the culprit? A new motherboard is pricy. My battery is old (5 years with daily usage), can a dead battery prevent the lights from turning on and the laptop too? Is it the DC connector? How can I know?

I hope someone can help.

Asus ROG G751JL-BB17T29: ASUS ROG G751jy Switches between battery and AC. Turns off if stressed

Thanks alot for your reply. You gave me new hope and I've been downloading every monitor there is. GPU-z logs the GPU, but I couldnt find a program that logs the CPU in a file so I can look at it later? Only the .CSV file to HWiNFO, which I couldnt find a way to read :O.

TEST RUN 1:

From my first test run, I tried to play Company of Heroes 2 on the lowest settings. Today it only flickers to battery sometimes. Here is a GPU-z sensor log from when it happens. You can see at the 30 second mark I alt-TAB into the game, and it changes to battery for 4 seconds. As you can see from the picture below, the GPU memory clock changes, as well as the PerfCap. (Note: this flickering to battery happened in the game maybe 5 times in a period of 10 minutes, and also in Windows when I am opening folders and Chrome.)

TEST RUN 2:

So I tried Heroes of the Storm with high graphics, and the laptop shut off after a few minutes in game. Actually it shut of while we were loading into the game (after the hero select and the menues). As you can see, the GPU Load [%] , Memory Controller Load [%] is very low right before the shut down, because there werent much graphics, only the load screen.

One more thing to note is that when I boot up the laptop again, I can clearly see that it stays on battery for a few seconds during the ROG logo (before windows boots). I can see this because I have 100% brightness on battery and 0% on AC. (When I tried to boot without the battery yesterday, it wouldn't even boot into windows).

TEST RUN 3:

Heroes of the storm with lowest graphics. 30 minutes in-game, with actual gameplay and no shut downs. Changes to battery approximately once a minute for two seconds.

At about 28 minutes it changed to battery, and didn't change back. I turned off the computer manually and when I was back in windows, it recognized the AC again.

Since I am not able to view .CSV files, the only thing I notice from the GPU-z logs are the GPU Memory Clock changing to 799.8 and the PerfCap Reason to 1 during the AC disconnect.

TEST RUN 4:

So with FurMark there isnt much to say, I run it, and it shuts down before the graphics appear.

-

Asus ROG G751 Laptop: Safe? New Laptop Battery (or Maybe the Bag) Smells

Background: Removed replacement battery from its bag. At first, the battery smelled sort-of-grassy/toxic-chemically. When installing it, the battery smelled more like new plastic/rubber or something.

A few hours later, I can’t detect either smell from the installed battery, even when close up. The inside of the (closed) battery bag still smells like sort-of-grass/toxic-chemicals.

Asus ROG G751 Laptop: Exposed battery wire: okay to use electrical tape?

Problem: I replaced the OEM battery with a generic one from iFixit. Its individually wrapped “rainbow” wires weren’t shaped like the OEM battery’s were, preventing them from laying flat. They obstructed a case screw.
