ASUS N550JK-DS71T Laptop: Laptop will not power on. Checked power supply output and it's good.

Checked power supply output, OK. Replaced battery. Still will not power on. Tested RAM, OK. Fans do not spin when power switch is pushed. Conducted some cursory testing of the mother board with DMM and found voltage. So, power is getting to the motherboard. What could the problem be and what else should I look for?

N550jvASUS ROG N550JX Repair GuideAsus N550JA RG Schematic

Yes, it is confusing. What I posted are the only diagrams I can find for the ASUS N550 series. If you know of a source for diagrams and a service manual for an ASUS N550JK-DS71T, I would be grateful. And thinking that the issue might be the power switch, I purchased a replacement on ebay. The laptop won't power on with either switch. These images are of the insides of the laptop with and without components installed. The spreadsheet is the results of measuring the test points on the motherboard diagram, which hopefully is similar to the JK. The tests were done with the power supply connected and with it disconnected. Booth the battery and the CMOS battery have been replaced.

Asus N Series: Windows 10 does not recognizes SATA BD-ROM / DVD Rewriter CT21N

I have exchanged the original DVD reader "Super Multi DVD Rewriter Model: GT70N" by a "BD-ROM / DVD Rewriter Model: CT21N".

I was expecting that Windows 10 recognizes the new Bluray reader. Both, new and old one are form Hitachi-LG Data Storage.

I have tried this already:

Driver updates from Windows Update → no updates needed

ODD Auto Firmware Update from Hitachi-LG (https://hitachi-lg.com/en/support/firmwa...) → The optical disc drive already has last firmware

I confirmed in the BIOS if the SATA configuration was ok, I can only change the SATA Mode from AHCI to IDE, so I let it on AHCI

is the laptop too old to use the Bluray drive, althought is SATA?

Any suggestion?

ASUS N550JK-DS71T Laptop: New laptop screen has no backglight

Hi guys,

my laptop (Asus N550JK, with touch screen - digitizer on the top of a matt lcd) Lcd broke down few weeks ago (purple/green tint etc) after some test i got convinced that the screen was faulty and decided to change it.

The screen is lg philips lp156wf4-sph1 (written on it) and it seems to be matt and IPS, so i ordered one online and installed it (I received a BOE screen), the display "works" but there is no backlight.. so i don't see anything, appart if i put a strong flash on it..

I find another seller, order another screen.. i receive the same screen.. same issue ! no backlight..

I dont know what is the problem, the when i pug in the former damaged screen (an LG philips) the backlight works smoothly (but the screen is broken heh.. as the former still has backlight, issue does not seem to come from motherboard, or lid switch)

What could be the cause of it .. ? Thanks in advance for your precious help

Asus N551J: Laptop: weird damage after falling

Hello!

First of all, I’d like to say that I’ve found already many useful guides on this forum and I’d like to thank everyone!

This time I’ve decided to write a post, as I have a bit peculiar situation with my laptop, which has recently fallen down and seems to have gotten damaged.

The laptop unfortunately fell from approx. 1.5m. After the fall, the screen was still displaying image, but the image was stuck. I force shut it down and when I turned it back on, the screen was not displaying anything anymore (not even the backlight turned on). I visualy inspected all internal parts to check whether any of them were in any way damaged, or if any connectors were loose. Everything seemed fine. Also the screen seems perfectly fine. I tested the hard drive on another computer and it works fine. However, still after turning the laptop on, the screen is not responding. Alongside that, the fan is acting funny, turning repeatedly on and off in the first 20 seconds after turning the laptop on and then starts cooling fully (not sure if this is normal fan behaviour). The flight mode indicator light gets turned on, but the hard disk reading indicator light does not flicker like it usually does.

After disconnecting the screen’s connector and connecting the laptop to an external screen there was still no image.

What could be the underlying issue for these problems?

Thank you a lot in advance for every kind answer and help.

Manja

Attaching image of the board. The screen’s cable is intentionally disconnected to allow getting a clearer picture.
