Asus G74SX-BBK8: Where can I find the ribbon cable to the Power Button?

A client has brought me his Asus ROG G74SX laptop and the power only comes up for a couple of seconds when pressed. ALL the LEDs light up briefly, nothing happens on the monitor, no POST, etc.

As I was inspecting the interior, I noticed the "Sumitomo-g AWM 2896 80C VW-1 -F-" (this is printed on the cable) 10 pin ribbon cable (I count ten contacts on the clips, so I assume its a 10 pin cable) is horribly crimped and might be suspect in the issue. I cannot find a replacement anywhere nor can I find a parts list or a Service manual to the laptop, just the user manual which you already have a link to from here. Its the cable that runs from the powerbutton finger board to J5601 on the motherboard.

I keep getting stonewalled from ASUS and various suppliers because they want the Serial Number (S/N) and the sticker has worn off the laptop and the client has none of the packaging, manuals, etc.

Can anyone assist? Thank you.

Asus G74SX-BBK8: Can anyone point me to guides for repairing USB ports, and screen?

I used to be pretty good with electronic repair back in my Army days. Now it's been more than a decade, and I'd like to try my hand at fixing my laptop.

3 of the USB ports have the little plastic support absent. I'd like to repair each of them. I'm doing some other general sprucing while I'm in here, like dust removal, replace batteries, etc. Maybe if suggestions about best maintenance practices, or maybe even upgrades would be most welcome.

The screen is also flickering and discolored on one side, indicating a screen replacement, or maybe just a part of the screen assembly. I suppose I'll see once I get in there, see what's going on, and diagnose my potential to fix by myself.

I presume I'll get my soldering iron, anti-static mat, and desk stands out. Maybe I won't need them though? Thank you so much for your suggestions, info, and time.

Asus G74SX-BBK8: Can I remove screen block to my Asus G74SX?

Hello everybody !

May be a strange question for here but I take my chance.

I got an old Asus G74SX who still works very well but since 2011 I got new laptop who are easiest to move, to be nomad.

Still it works and it still pretty descent for gaming or make a powerfull media center. Except it's pretty big with the screen. So my question. Can I remove all the screen block and still have my computer working well ? Just using the HDMI output to get my video signal on my TV screen.

Thank you for your help. :)

Asus G74SX-BBK8: charging issue and not shutting down.

Hello i have this laptop i got fro PC Laptops and i love it it works great, but when i got it it was used, that never really bothered me but i was told there was a battery problem with it.

but it turns out after i got a new battery for it that that would also have issues, so i looked up my model and found out that one of the main issues with it is that, plugging in the power cord over and over will loosen the ac port, so thats what was happening.

so i took it back to PC Laptops and had them replace that part and now its good and solid, i don't have to wiggle it around and try and find a thing to hold it in place , but after having it back for a bit i have noticed a few problems with it, one is that the battery will not charge anymore i have looked up thing on how to fix this issue but nothing has worked.

and the second and bigger issue to me is that it will not fully shut down... when i do the shut down icon in the start menu the laptop goes threw the motion and ends programs if i have any running then it goes to shut down screen and screen goes black but the power button light and some internal stuff keeps running and will not shut off completely. and if i unplug at this point its a 50/50 shot if it will be completely off. When i turn it back on it give me the your pc was not shut down properly screen so that is a big concern. an di have a few other little problems that don't really bug me to much but them 2 are the ones i need to know how to fix or what i can do to fix them.

Thank you for your time i hope to here some good new.
