Fluval 306 Canister Filter: I can't get the top to close all the way on one side!

I just replaced the seal ring because I had a leak - but now I can't get the filter closed properly and it's driving me crazy! It is on correctly - the imprint lined up and all of that. I can find absolutely no obstruction or anything that looks different than the other side.

It is the side with the primer. I can get the other end down tight, but the primer end - no matter how hard I push it down - is about 1/8 of an inch too high for the handle to latch at the top. Losing my mind! Any help appreciated.
