Apple XServe: Brand of drives Apple uses in their ADM's

I'm looking to upgrade the internal storage in my 2008 Intel XServe, but I really don't want to pay $549.00 for a 2TB Apple Drive Module (and I'd really need three of them). Does anyone know the kind of hard drive(s) that Apple uses in their ADM's? I know the model number will probably be slightly off, I'm simply trying to get as close to the real thing as possible.

Apple Xserve 2009: Xserve won't show anything on screen, only PSU fans on

Hey everyone,

Grabbed a 2009 Xserve to tinker with, it won’t show anything on screen, the CPU doesn’t get warm, the PSU fans are the only fans that are on.

All the LEDs on the edge of the second expansion slot are green, the CPUA MEM LED is lit up green, the System State is reported as S0 by a green LED, and the PLT_RST is orange. The orange status LED blinks, then off, then more blinking

I can answer any questions needed, I’ve already reseated the CPU and RAM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Apple Xserve G5: Hardwaretest does not run

Hi there,

I am not shure was is meant by "not enough information". It the DUT is an apple Xerve G5, single CPU, 2GB of RAM, 80GB SATA harddisk.

I am currently running OSX 10.4 supervising the XSERVE by an Mac Pro (Intel) having also the same OS running. In the log files I can read that the XSERVE has lost network connection and therefor it performs a full restart.

I own a CD/DVD witch is labeled hardware test. It might be that this one came with a Xserve G4 and is not compatible with mine G5 machines. So I questioned if someone out there has a G5 test software that I can use.

The other problem is much worse: The second unit does not come up. After warming up the power supply I can shortly see tha the fan of the power supply is running and 2 LEDs on the motherboard flashes up. The yellow maintanance indicator is switched on but a second later it will shut down again. Usually the row of fans in front of the G5 CPU starts to rotate and the blue LEDs on front get switched on but not in my case. The typicall booting procedure seems not to be performed. What could be the reason for? When I remove the CPU I cannot even get this 3 seconds of wake up. Is there a short circuit or anything missing? I do not know. Does this has to do with the battery charging? I slightly remember that there is a button to be pushed in case of Battery replacement and re-configurationof a CMOS RAM. But I cannot find hints about that anymore. Does someone has a repair instruction dokument about necessary steps to wake up a Xserve board? All inputs are welcome!

Best regards,

Peter

I have got a few xserv from Apple but all show the same instability and crashes from time to time.

I also got a CD with a hardware test but for unknown reasons it does not work.

Does anyone has a link to a test program that checks CPU, RAM, Harddisk etc. ?

I have installed again and again OSX 10.3 and OSX 10.4 but up to now the xserv's are only an hour alive before they restart.

Is there a possibility to start an xserv with LINUX?

Before I get rid of them I would like to give 'em a last try.

If you need more information pls. let me know!

Best regards,

Peter

Apple Xserve 2009: A 2006 xserve optical drive caddy install

I have a 2006 xserve (emc2107) . I just ordered 2 optical drive HDD cady's for the 2008 20" iMac(emc2133). Both xserve/iMac use the same connector (PATA) for the optical drive. My question is, does anyone know if someone else has tried this and/or is there some complication I might run into?

Apple Xserve 2009: OSX Upgrade on 2006 xserve

I have an xserve 2006 (emc2107) running MacOSX 10.7.2 Lion Server. I read that it can be upgraded to 10.7.5. I burned a copy of 10.7.5 client upgrade and 10.7.5 server upgrade. Here is the good part, I mislabled the disks. So I used 10.7.5 client upgrade on the xserve running 10.7.2 Server. Is there a way to recover my server os? I hope that just installing the 10.7.5 Server upgrade will work but I don't wanna make things worse. Basically if anyone can give me some advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Apple Xserve 2009: 2 of 3 RAID drives have degraded. Can anyone help with this?

We have an Xserve from 2011 and I understand that production of these discontinued and support is no longer available. 3 RAID drives were fitted and 2 have degraded and need replacing. I am trying to find someone who would be able to source the parts and undertake the repair for us on site. We are based in Farnham in Surrey. Please let me know if you know of any companies who will still support this hardware.

Apple XServe: Red light with mSATA SSD in Xserve G4

Anyone ever install an mSATA SSD into an older Xserve? I have an Xserve G4 Slot loading. The SSD is an SK hynix SC210 mSATA 256GB. I'm using an mSATA to 2.5 ATA/IDE case, and a 2.5 to 3.5 ATA/IDE adaptor. The SSD works just fine in my PowerMac G4 Quicksilver (can only see 128GB internally, but full 256GB via Firewire) and via a ATA/IDE to USB adaptor on my Mac Pro. Swapping in a normal 2.5" HDD into the Xserve via the adaptor works as well. So it's something with the SSD and/or ATA/IDE case that's showing it off.

The case is set for Master by default (no pins), I used a jumper to set it to Cable Select, but that didn't help. I could try Slave, but I would think Master is the correct setting anyway.

The drive bay has a red light, and Disk Utility doesn't see anything.

Thanks!
