Apple Time Capsule Model A1302: Request if a breakdown manual available

Hi Guys,

I have an Apple 2TB time machine in which the reset button on the back in damaged and I am unable to reset it so that it can rejoin my home network. I want to remove the HDD and install it another enclosure and use as a backup external HDD. Apple do not repair these, as you probably know.

If there is no breakdown manual and/or video can you suggest the safest way to break open the TM and retrieve the HDD from it?

Also, can you suggest a suitable enclosure that I could use to house the guts of the TM?

Many thanks for your help.

Cheers

Roger

Apple Time Capsule Model A1302: Time Capsule powers on but wont boot.

Basically, i had a power outage and after I got power, the LED would flash green for like a second and then go out. I opened it up and found 2 caps that bloated so I replaced them. Now it will turn on, the fan spins for a little bit, there is an odd sound coming out of the power supply, and the HDD won't spins up. After a minute or so, the sound stops and there is just a blinking, orange LED on the front. Anyone have any ideas? If nothing else, can someone get me a pinout of the pins so i can power it with something else

Apple Time Capsule Model A1302: New HDD installed: continuing error "internal disk needs repair"

I've replaced the failed 2TB HDD in my TC with a 4TB HDD (both WD Green drives). I've used the Airport Utility to try and set it up but keep getting the error "internal disk needs repair". I've tried soft, hard and factory default resets, but neither Finder or Disk Utility 'sees' the TC. If I use Airport Utility/Manual Setup/Disks, I can see the disk (although it only 'sees' 3.6TB) and it's S.M.A.R.T. status is 'Verified'.

I've returned the 4TB HDD and got a new one and installed it, but still get the same error. Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? The OS on my iMac is 10.6.8, but I'm under the impression this isn't relevant to the TC set up.

Apple Time Capsule Model A1302: Time Machine internal drive replacement using SSD instead of HDD?

Hello Everybody.

My A1302 Model internal Hard Drive is soon going to RIP (keep getting constant errors that the Disk Image can't be created / Is damaged ) so a drive replacement is imminent.

My question is, would it be wise to replace the internal drive with an SSD ? Or should I stick with a standard HDD ?

The old drive is a 1TB and i'm going to use a 1TB drive as a replacement.

Thanks is advance for your help.

Cheers

Apple Time Capsule Model A1302: Time capsule hard drive replacement software

If I install a new hard drive in my time capsule, when I power the device up will it boot normally? I recently replaced the hard drive in my MacBook pro and had to jump through several rings of fire to get it working again. I am debating about just buying a new time capsule instead of trying to upgrade the broken disk.

Apple Time Capsule Model A1302: Unit shuts itself down. Only special Apple labeled HD to be used?

Thanks for the in depth description.

After installing the new HD the TimeCapsule worked just fine and made a full backup over night.

All of a sudden on the next day it shuts itself completely off (no light, no sound).

Actually it shuts itself off the very moment it starts the hard drive to spin up !

This happens when it wakes from sleep, when I removed the power and plugged it back in, after a hard reset ...

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance,

Apple Time Capsule Model A1302: A1302 (2nd gen) harddisk change guide used on A1409 (4th gen)?

I have a 2TB A1409 Airport Time Capsule. The drive is full and backup didn't work since I got Sierra (middle March 2017). I am wondering if it needs a reset, maybe even a format, and I think it's a good time to upgrade the drive. Both Time Capsule and Mac has the latest updates available (I think it is 7.6.7 for the Time Capsule)

Can I use the 2nd gen (A1302) HDD change guide for my 4th gen (A1409) time machine?

Can I use a 10TB drive as suggested elsewhere (i.e. Seagate ST10000DM0004), or would the power draw, temperature or other issues make this a bad option?

If I don't care about the rubber mat, wouldn't the unit be better cooled off without it? I plug a USB powered fan into the unit anyway, to keep it cool (maybe I should use a standalone USB rather than the built in?)

Thank you for answering.

Update (04/08/2017)

Bonus question: When I remove the internal drive, can I retrieve the backups from it without using a Time Capsule (like a power/USB connection that suits this drive type)?

Apple Time Capsule Model A1302: Is it possible to install an 8TB hdd?

I have a 2009 Time Capsule with the 1TB HDD and I am wondering if I can upgrade the HDD to 8TB or if there is a capacity limit? It seems like there is conflicting information where some have reported that there is a 3TB limit while others have said there is no (feasible) limit. I don't want to waste money on something that isn’t compatible. I am aware of the SATA II limitation. Thank you for your help.

Apple Time Capsule Model A1302: WD Green, Blue, Red or Barracuda? Performance, reliability, price?

I notice in both the instructions and comments people are replacing the original Time Capsule HDD with WD Green-line of disks. However WD tells Green is the lower end of their lineup. Blue is better and Red specifically for NAS 24/7 performance.

Obviously this comes with a price tag. Have green disks performed as well as the Apple original? Is it overshooting to use higher spec lines? And what about Seagate Barracudas?

My original 1TB disk is just fine, I just want more capacity. Second question: is there a limit to what HDD capacity the Time Capsule bus, processor, etc can handle?

Thanks!
