AirPort Time Capsule A1470: Weird behavior after HDD replacement

Hi !

To keep it short, I got a 5G AP Time Capsule for several years now. Until recently the TC was working like a charm with the original 2To Seagate HDD.

I bought first a 12TB HDD (Seagate Exos X16) to replace the 2TB that was on the TC. I have tested the disk before mounting it on Windows (CrystalDiskInfo) and also on MacOS (DriveDX/Disk Utility/Disk Drill Disk Tool). All seems to be clear. I have done it several time because of the noise that was weird to me (but it has been a while since I din't heard a HDD scratching).

Well, the mounting was done smoothly and the configuration also. Btw I configured it as follow :
- Static Internet connexion with assign IP
- Wireless OFF, I don't need it
- Network mode is bridge
- Extra details : TC is plugged with c5e ethernet cable and I am using Catalin (10.15.7)

Now, the issue... Its driving me crazy because I can't manage to isolate the cause. Everything seems to work "just fine" (LED is full green) but when I am launching the first save (~550Go), the TC is rebooting randomly. It could happen around 100Go or at the beginning. So since few days, I wasn't able to complete the first save.
The weirdest thing, and this is where I am totally lost, is than every time the TC is rebooting, is making my router reboot aswell... So I am loosing WAN in top of that. How is that possible ? Like if it was the opposite of magic packet...

Here is what I have tried so far :
- Factory reset several time the TC . Turning the Wifi On, DHCP Internet. Erasing the disk. Doing it only with a ethernet cable between my MBPro and the TC. Résultat = NOK. Same issue.

Here is what I am going to try :
- Putting back the original disk to see if the issue is still happening. If yes, I am going to send back the drive.

If anyone has already encounter this issue and know any details about that, it will be appreciated. Thank you very much for your help.

AirPort Time Capsule A1470: Replaced Drive but still Reporting Error

My Airpot Time capsule reported a drive error so I replaced the existing 3TB. With an 8TB WD Red Plus, which by all accounts should work. However I still get the drive error report. Using Airport Utility I clicked on erase drive and nothing seems to happen and the drive error report still shows. I did break the connector for the LED off the PCB but I would think it will run without the LED. Any idea how I can move forward?

AirPort Time Capsule A1470: Time Capsule makes weird Fan noise

Hey guys,

I got this Time Capsule and since a week it’s making weird noises during normal operation. It’s not the HDD because when I access it via my Computer it turns on and up normally. Also accessing and storing data works normally. So I assume that it’s someway the fan that’s either blocked or broken. The sound is like something is starting to turn and then it suddenly stops. I saw the tear down for the HDD but now for other modules.

Apple Time Capsule Model A1254: How do I make the time capsule fan run permanently?

I have had my 1st Gen. 1TB time capsule from new and it has always run extremely hot. It concerned me initially, but I have to say it has lasted ten years before the PSU failed, much to my surprise, I expected HDD trouble first owing to the high temps. Whilst waiting for a new PSU to enable me to get the data off the old HDD, I managed to pick up a 4th Gen. 2TB time capsule and it runs much much cooler. This makes me wonder if the old fan was working properly. Is there any way to check if it is running? Or is there a simple way to make it run permanently? Thanks for any help.

Update (02/20/2018)

Further to my initial question I have now received the new PSU and fitted it, and very quickly after powering up it gets hot like it always did - much hotter than the newer 4th Gen. time capsule. I was able to recover all my data from the HDD so that was still fine, but I haven't been able to work out if the cooling fan runs or not. No one any ideas? Thanks.
