Apple TV 3rd Generation: Are the activation servers down?

Hi,

Just a question, have apple fully taken down the Apple TV 3 (I have A1469) activation servers down? I have reset my ATV many times and it always says activation failed in Settings-General-About. This also removes AirPlay which is the only reason I need the Apple TV. I’ve seen many other people with this issue but I still don’t know if it is a one time problem that is hard to fix and they are repairing it or if they are fully down forever.

So, could anyone tell me if it is a bug (and how to fix it) or if it is fully down.

Thanks

Apple TV 3rd Generation: ATV apparently dead - no power light

Have an A1469 Gen 3 AppleTV which was found dead after we came back out to our lake place this year. No power light, no picture.

Perhaps related, perhaps not - our 10 year old Samsung LED flat screen there was also found dead - I was able to repair with a new main board, while the power supply and T-Con board were fine. There had been some heavy weather in the month before - possible lightning strike?

Anyway, I've taken the bottom off the ATV, and see nothing obvious. No sign of life when plugged into Mac via USB. I hate to just throw away, but don't have any info regarding troubleshooting/diagnostics.

Any suggestions?

Apple TV 3rd Generation: No Video from HDMI, but unit works.

Recently the HDMI Video output on my Apple TV stopped working. It does power on and the LED on the front of it will flash whenever you press a button on the remote. I tried resetting the unit and cycling through the video outputs, but the TV doesn't show any video input at all.

I've tried switching HDMI cables and ports with known good ones, and even a different TV with no change. iTunes sees the unit and can even restore the software on it, but there is still no video output.

I took it to the Genius Bar to see if hopefully there was a hidden campaign for this issue (Apple sometimes has campaigns to address issues that they don't speak of until a unit comes in with the problem), or at least something they knew about fixing it, but no solutions there but to replace the unit entirely.

Has anyone ever ran into this issue before? And if so, what was the solution? I've gone ahead and purchased a new Apple TV. Which interestingly enough works much, much faster than the old unit when it comes to loading content (both were connected via Ethernet). Makes me wonder if there was a supplier switch in the years since we've owned it, or if that might just have been a symptom of an impending failure.

If possible, I'd like to try and fix this one for use with our 2nd TV. It's not physically damaged at all, though I do wonder if this might just be a broken solder joint somewhere.

Any ideas would be appreciated, and thank you in advance!

Apple TV 3rd Generation: AppleTV Remote water damage

Apple TV is great for use in bedroom, until you loose the remote in the sheets and wash it. My remote recently went through a full wash cycle. Found it before putting into the dryer and immediately wiped down and then let rest upside-down and covered in rice for a day. Next day, cleaned the battery area a bit, put in a new battery, and it seemed to work okay for about a day.

Noticed the select button starting to not work (had to really press hard to get any function) but the menu and play buttons worked fine. 48 hours later, the remote is completely dead. Is there a way to fix this? Could not find a teardown or guide for any Apple Remote.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Apple TV 3rd Generation: Apple TV 3rd Gen green screen then black screen

My TV has worked fine for a couple of years. The other night I "rewound" a movie I was watching and started getting parts of a green screen. Did it again and when I go to play I get a total green screen. Next day, I get black screen when I go to play a movie but I get sound and subtitles. The normal menu screen appears fine and I can navigate normally. It is only when I try to play something that it fails. If this were a Mac, I'd say the GPU has failed but I don't know that much about an Apple TV. Any suggestions?

BYW I hooked up my other identical Apple TV 3rd gen to my set up and it works fine.

Apple TV 3rd Generation: Power supply screws broken off

Hi!

I am in somewhat of (another) bother. I was taking apart my Apple TV (to upgrade to a USB power adapter) but when I went to put it back together (the USB power adapter wasn't working) the screws that hold in the (original) power adapter broke off half way.

The problem is now, (after I asked the manufacturer about the problem and they helped me fix it), I can't get the old power supply out because the left screw broke at such a height that I can't get the head of the adapter out of the ATV because it's stuck on the screw. I wasn't even screwing them in very hard and they both broke off.

Has anyone experienced this before? Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I can get it (power supply) out?

I bought two days ago an Apple TV (third gen) without the original remote controller. I have two other remote controllers at home an OEM one and an aftermarket one. And this is the problem with the remote controller application on my every apple device that have of course newer OS then the iOS 7.
