Now the space bar just sits on the bottom without being able to bounce back. Is it possible to fix this? Maybe replace the bracket (hook) with something else?

This is a new to me iMac, 2019. The keyboard worked at first until I tried to charge it. After that I could not get the iMac to recognize it again. I gave up and plugged in my old wireless keyboard without issue.
