Apple MagSafe2 Power Adapter: Brand new Magsafe2 charger LED light leaking from cable, is it faulty?

This a brand new adapter from Apple store, there's a green light leakage from the cable at the magsafe 2 head, is this normal or it's faulty?

It's from UAE apple store and a friend got me the adapter sealed to Egypt so I can't go to apple store right away and replace it unless the friend take it again to UAE.

Sorry for being paranoid, I had terrible stories with repair shops in Egypt which ruined and burnt my previous adapter.

P.S. why not buying from Egypt? No apple stores and it costs 3x its price. I added the Other picture because someone told me on other forum it's scratched not brand new while it was only a residue from the plastic wrap! So it's the same but with flash and the leak is barely visible.

Thank you

Apple MagSafe2 Power Adapter: Hack magsafe 2 to use as generic PSU

Hi,

I. have an 85W Magsafe 2, which had the cable damaged.

As I don’t need it to power a mac, would it be possible to use it as a bench power supply?

Measuring the voltage with no load, shows 3V on my multimeter. How can I make it work? I read somewhere that it needs to see 40kohm, to activate.

I’ve tried to put a 40kohm resistor there and it doesn’t wake up to max voltage.

Cheers,

Apple MagSafe2 Power Adapter: Why my magsafe 2 light suddenly goes off

Been a while ago, my all electrical devices burnt because power surge that I lived, fortunately I repaired all devices except magsafe 2 45 watt, I replaced all broken power components of magsafe 2 (capacitor, varistor, fuse and inductor) then I connected 39k ohm resistor to output pins (0.6v without connecting 39k ohm) and I saw 15v on output, It worked technically and charged my MacBook as well but sometimes light turns off suddenly and charging stops, after unplugging cable and plugging it again, It starts charging again but not for long, I can't estimate what's wrong with it, thanks in advance.

Apple MagSafe2 Power Adapter: Magsafe 2 85W charger will not charge 2015 MacBook Pro

I have an old 85W Magsafe 1 charger with a T-tip (yes, it’s an odd ball one) that I converted to a Magsafe 2 T-tip by resoldering a brand new Magsafe 2 T-tip cable. It charges all all of my laptops without issues:

2013 13” MBP Pro

2014 15.5” MBP Pro

2015 13” MBP Air

They all show light up solid green when charged up or solid amber when charging.

Unfortunately, the charger won’t power up my 2015 13” MBP which has the battery disconnected. The amber light on the cable blinks and then turns off. My other magsafe 2 chargers will at least power it up with a solid amber light. As a test, I tried at least three different chargers and they were able to power it up without issue.

I highly doubt I botched my conversion. Are there other differences either in the MBP 2015 Pro circuitry or the Magsafe 1 circuitry that may cause it not to charge.

Apple MagSafe2 Power Adapter: Magsafe 2 60w: How to identify power connections on board?

RE: Magsafe 2 60w (for 13.3” MB Pro retina)

I’m attempting to replace the power cord on one of these

and want to check the correct connections.

I’m soldering the replacement cord to the connections on the board in this case, in want to know the correct wires to solder which terminal. The replacement cord I have has one inner white sheathed wire and an outer bare wire surrounding it that needs to be separated (see image. 1 below).

I’m aware of how to strip/ separate/ prepare these based on the guides on here, but I’m unsure of which terminal to connect them to on the MagSafe’s board.

Below is an image of the Magsafe’s board I have.

Question is: which terminal to connect the white (inner) wire to, and which the bare (outer one?)

It could be the case I’ve killed it already on my first attempt. Previously I repaired the same by just soldering to the existing wire - which may have been a better option…

Any advice much appreciated.

thanks greatly - SS

Update (01/28/2019)

Thanks greatly, that’s pretty helpful; it’s hard to tell for sure the correct way round from that video though, it ‘looks’ like it’s the white (inner) wire to the terminal nearest the yellow capacitor.

Can anyone here give a more definitive answer maybe?

ie: “ white (inner) wire to terminal nearest yellow capacitor “ for sure/ 100% / etc

Sorry to be pedantic here, just wish to avoid killing/ shorting it…

thanks

Apple MagSafe2 Power Adapter: Overheating to point of emergency shutoff.

Alright, I think my charger is starting to finally go after all these years.

I use it for my Early 2015 13" Retina MacBook Pro. The charger itself is the 60W version.

Recently I've noticed it's been shutting itself off often. As in, charge light turns off, and it stops charging the battery.

When it does this, upon noticing I unplug it, the first time I made the mistake of grabbing the charging block, (I have learned to NOT do that now as I gave myself a decent burn) whenever this happens the charging block is horrifically warm.

The first time this happened I had shrugged it off as an isolated event, as my cat had been sitting on it, and well, my cats pretty warm.

Then it happened 2 more times while having nothing covering it.

The most recent incident was about 5 minutes ago, I noticed a slight burnt smell, (I had also noticed this with the other incidents) my charger was still charging, but I unplugged it and briefly tapped the charger with my finger, it was overheating. I had likely noticed it just before it would've shut itself off.

The charger itself is in surprisingly good shape for it's age, (at least externally, I can't see the inside.) Wire is starting to turn yellow in places, and there is a small tear in the coating but the wires are intact.

I have also noticed that ONLY the block gets warm, not the cable.

My computer's battery is not the best, so I 80% I have it plugged in.

The only other charger I have right now is a Apple MagSafe 2 45W one, not entirely sure if using it would have some sort of negative effect though.

Battery temp showed as 31c before being plugged in, so it actually dropped a bit.

Apple MagSafe2 Power Adapter: Cannot unsolder MagSafe2 cable

Our rabbit chewed the cable from the MagSafe2, and as I have previously replaced one I thought "oh, well".

Not so fast. When I put my soldering iron to the points to remove the old cable, the solder does not melt even when the temperature is turned up to max and the board gets discoloured.

Any clue what to do? I could splice the cables of course, bit of a cludge.

Edit: this is a replacement charger, smaller than the original one.
