Apple Extended Keyboard A1243: I've got a few dead keys on this keyboard - any way to fix?

Hi, I’ve got one of these keyboard - I’m a fan of it in general. It’s pretty high mileage, and they don’t make em anymore. Nothing is obviously physically damaged; my “U” key and a handful of keys on the number pad are just dead. Anyone have any thoughts on fix? is there such a thing as a diagnostic app for Apple keyboards? Thanks!

Apple Extended Keyboard A1243: Shift key doesn't work on the letter I/letter I and K

Ok, I know this sounds weird, but on my old iMac, the left shift key works fine for every letter except I and the right shift key works fine for every letter except I and K. Any idea why it would just be those key combinations that don't work? It even happens when you’re logging into the computer before it’s even finished starting up so I don’t think it’s anything with system settings, etc. Thanks in advance!

Apple Extended Keyboard A1243: Keyboard dead, won't recognized by computer

Hi, I saved this keyboard from the reciclyng yard since someone in my office has thrown it away. The reason is the keyboard is not recognized by any computer when plugged in the USB port. Even the led on the caps key won't turn on. I tried to open it in order to see if the USB cable was damaged but everything looks in order (I tested with a multimeter). Am I completely hopeless or is there something I could check in order to try a repair?

Apple Extended Keyboard A1243: Apple wired keyboard with Numpad stopped working after power outage?

Hi, just like the title says, after the power outage my wired keyboard stopped working. Here's what I've tried so far;

SMC/NVRAM reset

All other USB ports on iMac

USB extension cable to all ports

Checked USB ports with another keyboard. It is worked, that's mean there are no problems with the ports.

Checked the broken Keyboard with PC, it didn't recognize (tried all ports on the PC, USB 2.0, USB 3.0)

Both USB ports (L/R) under the Keyboard also working

If I connect to another Keyboard to (L/R) under the Keyboard, it's working

Tried on Hackintosh, it didn't work

Another solution;

Power off the iMac

Disconnect all peripherals and Power

Hold down power button for 30 seconds

Reconnect power and turn on. Leave everything else disconnected.

Reconnect Keyboard

Repeat many times and this solution didn't work either

There is only one silly thing left that I didn't try, cos, this is the most stupid thing that I heard of. Washing Keyboard in the Dishwasher. I'm very close to try that.

Do you think it means the keyboard is short-circuited and can no longer be used?

What do you suggest more?

Apple Extended Keyboard A1243: What to do when a rubber dome is broken off?

I mean the nipple-like part that I circled on this image (not mine, edited stock image)

. I lifted off the key cap to clean it, and somehow the nipple-like part was broken off from the rubber layer. I placed the nipple-like part at the centre as you see the image above, and put the key cap back. The key is working but is not springly any more.

It seems that opening this keyboard and replacing the entire rubber layer is nearly impossible (all glued together). The only way I could think of is using some kind of glue to attach the nipple-like thing on the transparent film on which a spiral shape circuit is printed, but I am not sure if it would stick to it (because the bottom of the nipple-like thing is hollow). Throwing away the whole keyboard just because that small silicon nipple is broken off seems to be a waste of resources. What is the best way?

Apple Extended Keyboard A1243: Space Button No Longer Pops Back Up

The space bar felt like it was stuck, so I followed instructions to remove it. I cleaned it, but there was no obvious ‘spring mechanism’. When I reassembled the space bar, there was not a change.

I took it back apart and it appears that the bump or ‘wart’ in the middle which is part of a ‘mat’ is supposed to supply the ‘spring’ and this rubber-like bump is torn.

Am I correct that is the issue? Can I replace the mat that has that bump?

Apple Extended Keyboard A1243: USB Device Not Recognized, Nothing Works and Caps Light Not Lit

I have an A1243 keyboard from 2007. I love this keyboard, however when I had it plugged into my iMac there was some static electricity that was felt off of the keyboard and now the keyboard does not work, the Caps Lock LED does not light up, however when plugging the keyboard into a Windows 10 PC I get a notification that the USB Device is not recognized. What could potentially be the problem, and is there a way to fix this? I have verified the problem is with the keyboard itself, not my Mac or PC.
