Apple AC Adapter: MagSafe connector heats up really bad, why is that?

I have a late 2009, macbook white, which up until a couple of days ago worked perfectly - now, every time I'm attaching the magsafe connector to the laptop, the connector itself heats up quite a lot in a matter of minutes. It works ok if I try to recharge the battery whilst the laptop is powered off, however every time I'm trying to recharge the battery with the laptop powered on the connector heats up to the point that I can barely touch it.

I can't figure out what is to blame here; is it the connector from the cable at fault, or is it the connector inside the laptop, or the battery?

Also now, the connector only charges the battery if I fiddle with its position a bit.

Any input into the matter would be much appreciated:

Thank you!

Apple AC Adapter: Can I make MagSafe2 to MagSafe1 converter?

i know theres a $10 product that MagSafe1 to 2 converter, but now i need the other way converter.

(because all my work friends uses new MS2 gear, but i use older MS1 MBP.)

so anyway, i heard MS1's output voltage is ~16.4v(maybe max 18v?), but MS2 is ~20v.

i tried uses not-their-own power adapter of other things, 10~15% of over voltage is not a problem so far. but this time is over 20% difference. i'm not sure about working well this time too.

assume i can make magnet 5 pin connector thingy, could i use 20v pin to pin? should i use a regulator like 7818? or couple of diodes?

I have a typically frayed magsafe charger. It frayed at the end and became useless so I replaced it. Since I have been getting better with a soldiering iron, I deciede to take the razor knife and cut into the plastic part to open it up and see if I could Frankenstien it back together.

Guess what? It worked!!

You've heard "if it ain't broke, dont fix it." Yeah, well I decided not to follow that advice because I wanted to make it look pretty.

Murphy's law kicked in and it won't work any more.

Which wire goes on which soldiering point of the tiny PCB under the plastic cover? One goes opposite the chip, and one goes other end but I am unsure of myself since I messed with it too much. I de-soldered everything and I am starting with clean wire from the brick.

There is the inside wire and the outside wire and I need to know where each one goes.

Or did I fry the PCB or chip or whatever by heating too much?

Thanks in advance for the responces.

Apple AC Adapter: "Battery is not charging" and no light

I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro.

The same Macbook with a different adapter works perfectly. The same adapter on another Macbook displays the same behavior.

Apple AC Adapter: Help Needed: MagSafe 1 Charger Not Charging After Fuse Bypass

Genuine Apple chargers are expensive and shipping costs would make it even more-so. Let's try to save this one.

---------------------------

Charger: 60W MBP MagSafe Adapter (A1344)

Laptop: MBP late-2011 13" A1278

<ins>Story</ins>: I plugged it into an old outlet in an old hotel in India, and I wake up to find the charger not working anywhere. Other chargers work okay and SMC reset done. CoconutBattery says the battery is okay. Culprit is the charger.

<ins>Diagnostics</ins>: I checked the primary fuse (the brown box near the AC input - apparently a "4A time-delay type fuse", and it had no continuity. With so much glue and padding and shielding everywhere, I really didn't risk probing much further. No swollen or blown capacitors.

<ins>Troubleshooting</ins>: Here's the fun part, I got some thick wire and bypassed the primary fuse by soldering it to the existing little prongs on the opposite side of the PCB. It kind of worked... I can get a green light, but it makes a buzzing noise sometimes depending on the position of the L-shaped DC laptop port.

<ins>Current status</ins>: The green light turns on. However the MBP isn't charging normally nor holding its charge. Occasionally I'll get the DC end in the some kind of position where an orange light comes but it's rare.

I attached a screenshot of iStatMenu's power stats. I don't really have a reference point, but I'm pretty sure that DC-In should be more than 0.08 amps. Though there are some intermittent spikes when charger is wiggled at the laptop-side and it buzzes. I found that by wiggling the DC charger end (which connects to the laptop), the buzzing will start and stop (kind of like when a your old earbuds don't get sound unless they're in the right position). Which is odd because that part of the charging cord was fine before and I didn't suspect any problems there, but I could be wrong. (see video and photos attached for demonstration).

Hey after some random wiggling - I have an orange light! Not sure if its actually pulling enough voltage/amps etc. though. Hard to reproduce. Yes okay I can get an orange charging light and get it to pull ~2a and charge but only when it's buzzing. Something's weird. Without the buzzing - there's not adequate charge.

Apple AC Adapter: Replacement of broken plastic wing

I broke one of my plastic wings of my apple ac adapter. There are two small plastic pins to the left and right of the wing which are fixed it in a kind of hole at each sides of the outer plastic shell. One idea would be to reprint this plastic wing with a 3d printer, but I am not sure if there is a file which has this 3d information available and I also do not know if the material would be stable enough. Also I am not sure if this shell can be opened because I fear that the wing is not very easy to be replaced without opening the shell - the only way then would be to use pressure to position the reprinted wing.

Apple AC Adapter: How can I spot a fake online?

I know the only way to get a new one that isn’t fake is to buy it through Apple, but the machine I am getting is on the older side and I’d prefer to not spend $79 for an older but years newer system then my first attempt. This is why I am strictly looking at used adapters unless I keep getting unlucky and go to an Apple store. I got a 2011 13” this time.

In a previous attempt at a cheap Mac, I got a 2006 C2D MB and it was fried due to a knockoff (see this post: Why is the laptop shutting down?) and the machine was a total loss unless I see life with a different charger from a different notebook. I’m going much newer this time to reduce the risks (and avoiding the rMBP), but I need to find a genuine adapter. The last time I did this, the adapter I bought was a high grade fake that I was weary of because the cord didn’t feel right knowing what a real Apple power brick feels like.

Other then the manufacturer, is there any other red flags I can trust in photos to avoid these?

Apple AC Adapter: 85 W adapter only registers as 60 W adapter, help?

I did this cable repair recently on an apple 85W adapter (not counterfeit, the one that came with the laptop purchased directly from apple) and the system now reports that the connected charger is 60W instead of 85W. Any idea why this would happen?
