AirPods Max (USB-C): Is wired audio possible?

Hi iFixit team,

A lot of users of the USB-C AirPods Max, myself included, have been surprised to find out that currently there is no support for wired connectivity with this model. Apple offered wired connectivity for the Lightning version through an Apple exclusive cable, but as of yet there is no such offering for the USB-C version. This has been confirmed with Apple Support.

My question is, can you tell if the USB-C port is capable of transferring audio or connected only to the battery, as some are speculating?

It would be helpful to know if this would ever be possible through software update/new cable, or if Apple has completely removed the possibility of wired audio connection for the new version.

Thanks!

AirPods Max (USB-C): My headphone wont work…

The right side of my AirPods Max stopped working. I already took them to Apple, and they told me it was a “jail break,” but I don’t understand how that could’ve happened. I bought them used on Facebook Marketplace, so I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it. Has anyone had this issue before or knows how to fix it?
