Acer Swift 3 SF314-42: Acer Swift SF314-42 Battery not Charging

Hello,

Right off the bat : electronics repair is not my job, this is my first time poking about on a motherboard with a multimeter, and I'm unsure I'm measuring right. I have an Acer SF314-42 laptop whose battery won't charge, in windows (able to boot fine with power cable plugged) it says it's charging and battery at 0%. If I unplug the adapter (charge via USB-C), the laptop instantly turns off.

I've been able to find a schematic here which I've opened the laptop and checked the connector between the motherboard and the battery because I found a tutorial for an Acer laptop having the similar issue here though it's not the same model, it looks like a similar adapter. The guy in the video measures the voltage between every pin of the laptop and I tried to follow a similar diagnostic procedure.

I did that, and in the schematics linked above (which I've been able to view online with nextbv I see that the battery motherboard connector is called PJP2 and the pin all the way to the right is supposed to be 12.6 Volts, which I imagine is to be measured w.r.t. the ground. I suppose that if the motherboard works fine, I should be able to get 12.6 V reading when reading the tension between that pin and ground when the laptop is plugged in ?

In any case I tried to measure that and was getting the following (rather worrying) measurements, see the attached pictures and captions on google drive here.

What can I conclude from this ? Is the board toast and should I replace it ? Or is it the battery ?

Thanks !

Acer Swift 3: Single tap on the trackpad highlights?

This has happened twice before, without changing any settings whatsoever (well, to my knowledge anyway). Usually, a single tap on the trackpad would register as a click, but instead of clicking, the cursor locks on and it highlights everything. The only way to properly click and select stuff on-screen was to press on the touchpad. This problem usually surfaces very suddenly. I was wondering if I had accidentally activated some shortcut... how I should rectify this? Thanks in advance:)

Acer Swift 3: Acer Laptop: How to fix/prevent screen flickering/freezing/lines?

Hello everyone! I have an acer swift 3 laptop (SF314-51-5831). It has gotten wet multiple times in the past. Another thing is that I often carried it in my backpack up close to my back with the weight of the backpack contents pressing onto the lid, which caused the hinge screws to come loose. When i recently started using it again after a pause the screen was working fine. But then it started to freeze/become grayscale/ only show top third (see attached photos). I have then taken the laptop apart and took all the tape of the EDP-cable to see if it was damaged. It still looks intact. When I connect the laptop via HDMI to an external monitor the picture is clear. When I hooked the screen back up via EDP-cable and gently bent the screen a while in all directions(just fiddling around) the picture was clear again(see attached photos). What causes this problem and how can i fix it? How can I prevent it from returning when I put the laptop back together? It seems to me there is water damage and I need to clean something but what? I don't want to buy a new screen or EDP-cable only if absolutely necessary. The screen panel is an AU Optronics B140HAN02.1. The EDP-cable is an CA4DB 1422-02GG000. Thank you for your answers in advance!

Kind Regards JB

Acer Swift 3 Series: Replacement charger that properly fits into the charge port?

Hello,

So I have an Acer Swift 3 51 56MY gold laptop. The original charger unfortunately broke, so I had to buy another one.

Initially I bought a charger from Amazon that said the charger connector size was 3.0 x 1.1mm. However, this did not fit into the laptop's charge port, so I had to return it. I found another charger that was 3.0 x 1.0mm. This one fit into the laptop. The problem is it's very loose and comes out of the port easily which results in continuous charger disconnects/reconnects.

As a temporary "fix", I carefully added some solder to the charger connector (on the metal part) and now the charger fits into the laptop port and doesn't easily fall out. Laptop charges and no longer disconnects/reconnects every time you move the laptop around. It also comes out of the port without issue (just have to use more force now since it now fits tighter into the port).

I'm not particularly happy with this workaround since I'm not sure if it's safe to do this or if the workaround will last, so I'm still on the lookout for a proper replacement charger. Does anyone know where to buy a charger that properly fits the laptop? I'm located in the UK.

Appreciate any help.
