My webcam on my Acer Chromebook 14 has never worked, but I never fixed it and the warranty is expired. Now I need it for work and I thought I could repair it myself. Is it easy/inexpensive to fix? Or should I just get a new laptop or external webcam?

Acer Chromebook CB3-431-C5EX: Charger will not plug into Chromebook

Hi!

I went to plug in my Acer Chromebook CB3-431-C5EX this morning and the charger wouldn’t plug in. I looked at the laptop’s charger port and the little metal part that would connect to the charger wasn’t there.

Could I get this fixed or do I have to buy a new laptop?

Acer Chromebook CB3-431-C5EX: Acer Chromebook: blown motherboard component?

My father’s Acer Chromebook 14 (CB3-431) will no longer power-on. It worked fine for 18 months before one day it no longer charged. Once the battery ran down it no longer powers on.

I suspected the power port might be at fault, as the socket is quite loose. When removed the back I noticed a white mark on the motherboard near to what I believe is the charging circuit.

Now I am no longer sure whether it is worth ordering a new power port.

Does anybody know if this looks like a blown motherboard component?

Acer Chromebook CB3-431-C5EX: How do I power on a Chromebook with a dead power button?

I’ve got a Acer Chromebook 14 that I’m doing a screen replacement on. The power button was known to not work before the repair. The customer had simply been opening the lid to ‘turn it on’.

I disconnected the battery before doing the repair, and now I can’t get the Chromebook to power-on again when opening the lid. I’m assuming it was in sleep mode before, but disconnecting the battery did a hard shutdown.

I don’t have the charger, but I will try hooking it up to my bench PSU. Does anyone know what I could try to power this thing up?

Any help very much appreciated!

Acer Chromebook CB3-431-C5EX: Why is my Acer Chromebook refusing to charge?

Hi,

I'm putting this CB3-431 chromebook together from spare parts and it all works except it won't charge.

I've tried 2 different batteries, both could be duff for all I know but the battery_test shows them to be ~97% and 100.5% good (not sure how the latter is possible!) but discharging.

It works fine on AC, and did on battery until it went flat as I can't get it to charge... The charge light comes on but it remains stuck on 1%.

I've tried all the suggested things I can find for this:

Hard Reset

Disconnecting the battery and plugging in AC for 5 mins. (the charge light flashes but never goes red, but this may refer to a different model)

Esc-Refresh-Power to get to recovery and charging from there for 12h.

There looked to be a slight corrosion on some bits on the board (now cleaned), so maybe if it has been water damaged, I don't stand a chance?

Some places have suggested a bad power supply but I'm thinking as it is a 2 pin connector, if it powers on then that must be OK?

Any thoughts and/or advice appreciated!

Says "Recovery successful, now remove recovery usb and your computer will re-boot" But it does not re-boot...screen goes black and stays that way......is this a hardware issue?
