Acer Aspire U5: Why does my display flash on for a second then goes black?

I have an Acer Aspire All-In-One 5600u. The screen will flash on for a second at start up. I can see the Acer logo for a split second, then it goes black. If I connect it to an external HDMI display I can see that it's still running and I can log in and use it fine. In fact if I touch the touch screen I can still control the computer, so that still works, it just won't display anything. Any ideas what part is broken so I can replace it? I haven't been able to find and tear downs of this computer online, so even that would help. I'm pretty good at repairing my own computers and have taken apart my iMac and replaced parts without trouble, but I've never done one of these. Please help!

Acer Aspire U5: power problem killed my motherboard?

We had a power problem while my acer aspire was in sleep mode. It blew the power supply on my son’s computer. he shut mine off. After the power problem was fixed my acer’s keyboard mouse and display would not come on. When you press the power button you could hear the beep and the fan and drive running but no input from the computer for the monitor. we tested the keyboard mouse and monitor on another computer and they work there. does that sound like a complete MB failure or could the processor be ok?
