Acer Aspire 3 A315: Screen Issue - White Band covering left hand edge

My laptop screen has a 2cm wide band along the left hand edge which is covering whatever is on the desktop or applications etc.

Can this be fixed?

My sister has an Acer VN7-591G laptop that won't boot (black screen, no output to HDMI)

She wants me to get the photos off her hard drive.

No problem I thought. I've popped out the HDD, but it is empty other than an old "iMovie Backup" directory.

Looking at the specs, it is supposed to be a dual HDD/SDD, so I assumed that the Windows installation and all her photos are on the SDD

However, there is no SSD in the machine! According to this guide:

there should be an M.2 SSD on the bottom left of the motherboard. But that slot is EMPTY!!

How, if there is nothing but a few random files on the HDD was this machine ever booting? Is there somewhere else that Acer hide the SDD? I certainly can'y see anything...

It is so strange - it looks like it had an SSD (As the hard drive is empty), but its not there! What am I missing?!?

My laptop won't work if the charger is not plugged in and I thought it was normal then while using using my laptop the charger suddenly fall and my laptop turned off and when I try to turn it on it still shows the acer logo then I cancel the bootable by typing F2 repeatedly then etc..and when I'm done canceling that bootable the acer logo appears again and that was normal after that my screen should show all the apps and etc..but suddenly it shows black screen and a small white blinking in the left upper side of my laptop how do I fix this??

When I type, some letters are very difficult to make. This seems to be because it is wearing out. I don't get a wrong response - it is often absent, and I have to strike the keys a certain way to get it.

Does ayone know if I ca replace the keyboard? Thanks!

Hi,

I have an acer aspire 5542 laptop that turns on, the fan spins but I have no display. I'm pretty sure the issue is with the motherboard or the gpu on the board, but don't know how to test it.

First, I'm wondering if a dead gpu can be hot? Can he produce some heat?

I don't want to buy another board, this is a old laptop and I just want to learn and try to fix it by myself. However, I don't know where to begin with.

I was thinking about testing voltage on the display connector to know if atleast the current goes there, but as I said I'm not sure and this is my first time so I don't have any kind of experience and for the moment I'm just trying to figure out where to begin with.

Acer Aspire: Acer Aspire S3-371 - Where is the DIMM1 RAM slot located?

Hi everyone,

I have an Acer Aspire S3-371 (i3-3217U, 4GB DDR3L) and I want to upgrade the RAM. Both dmidecode and lshw confirm there is an empty DIMM1 slot:

     description: SODIMM DDR3 Synchronous 1600 MHz
     slot: DIMM0
     size: 4GiB

     description: DIMM [empty]
     slot: DIMM1

However, after removing the bottom cover I cannot see any SO-DIMM slot on the visible side of the motherboard. I can see the HDD bay, battery, fan, WiFi card, and what appears to be an empty mSATA slot — but no RAM slot anywhere.

Crucial claims "all system memory is soldered onboard" for this model, but the BIOS/DMI clearly reports two slots with one empty.

I already purchased a DDR3L 4GB SO-DIMM 1600MHz module for this upgrade.

My questions:

Is the SO-DIMM slot on the underside of the motherboard (requiring full motherboard removal to access)?
Has anyone successfully upgraded RAM on the S3-371 (not the V3-371, which is a different model)?
Or is the BIOS reporting a phantom slot that doesn't physically exist?

Any photos of the underside of the S3-371 motherboard would be extremely helpful.
