I can adjust the carb to the furthest point to push the kickdown lever all the way back. but using a return spring it raises the rod well above the pump. Doesn't it have to be in contact with the pump all the time. If I don't use the spring, it rests on the pump but there is alot of travel left before the carb pushes down on the pump...

Someone please enlighten me on this mechanical nightmare, it just doesn't make sence.
